The theme of football is a COGtastic opportunity to use the Emotion Cogs to unpack a wide range of different emotions, their triggers, behaviours, body sensations, intensity and emotional regulation, along with the bigger picture of the back story for so many teams, players and supporters.

As we approach the beginning of the 2026 World Cup, we're gathering together some COGulous examples of Emotion Works football themed practice to inspire you.

For context, this practice sharing input was recorded in June 2021 – confusingly 1 year after Euro 2020 was originally scheduled to start but that finally took place during June & July 2021 due to the Covid Pandemic.

Winning & Losing Behaviours - Green Cog focus

Football can be a good way to engage pupils in learning about emotional expressions and noticing the way our behaviours change when we have heightened feelings of winning or losing.

Use the clips shared from this example (a few years old now) or find more updated ones, or ask pupils to search for some.
