Doris Salcedo (Bogotá, 1958) is a Colombian sculptor. His work is in some way to the political situation in Colombia. He sometimes uses furniture in his sculptures, eliminating his family nature and giving them an air of discomfort and horror. He lives and works in Bogotá. She was educated in universidad Jorge Tadeo lozano,university of New York .He studied Fine Arts at the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University of Bogotá. In 1984, he graduated from the University of New York, then returned to Colombia between 1987 and 1988, where he directed the School of Plastic Arts of the Institute of Fine Arts of Cali. He obtains a scholarship from the Guggenheim Foundation and Penny Mc.Call, with this he increases his popularity. It is at this moment that he realizes what he wants to do as an artist and goes to the most depressed areas of Colombia, there he talks with relatives of people who have been killed by violence, and then uses his testimonies as a base in The creation of his works.His works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, at the Tate Modern in London, at the Pompidou Center in Paris and at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. She is one of the most important Colombian artists in the international contemporary scene.

The book Doris Salcedo (2000), by Phaidon publishing house, was published on his work.

Between 1987 and 1988 he directed the School of Plastic Arts of the Institute of Fine Arts of Cali. He has been awarded a scholarship by the Guggenheim Foundation and Penny Mc.Call. It was also recognized by the Camargo Vilaça Gallery, San Pablo.

She was awarded the Nomura Art Award in 2019.

In our project we will make the traditional CColombian peasant, culturally emboldened. He will use the traditional ruana, with its capa and torn jeans. But for the cultural invasion to be seen, he is going to wear nike shoes, his adidas hood, also is going to be drinking Heineken with an apple cell phone and AirPods. The sculpture is going to be done with boxes like minecraft characters. All this brands are foreign and modern since this is the problem of cultural invasion. The project would be colorful and of body size since it need to be an realistic and well structural sculpture. Finally it will place it in a place the people can see it because our objective is to make the people realize what is the problem of “ the cultural invasion”.

What we made?

On this art proyect we take a big box and paint it in the outside parts with orange. Inside of the box we painted black and with brisk for simulating an urban environment full with sadness. This was because of the problematic of Doris Salcedo that was the Violence. Next, we painted some nerf guns of black (black= Urban environment + Violence) and then we Took some “Nilon” and then we hand the guns. Finally we put some colorful flowers that mean that now there are good feelings and happiness in the places that happiness doesn’t exist.
