         <title>Edmond Albius 1829 - 1890</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Edmond Albius was a horticulturist in the mid 1800's from Réunion.&nbsp; He greatly impacted the export and supply of Vanilla Bean and discovered a technique to pollinate the Vanilla Orchids quickly, boosting profits for the growing supply.&nbsp;<br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;At the time, French Colonists had brought the plant to the islands in hopes that the plant would grow and become abundant; However, they have soon realized the vanilla orchids were not reproducing as the native animals and insects were not accustomed with pollinating this plant.&nbsp;<br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Rather than using the traditional hand pollination method, Edmond used blades of grass and sticks to spread the pollen from the pistils to the stamens. This revelation benefited Réunion, which caused the area to become the worlds largest producer of Vanilla Bean at the time.&nbsp;<br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; His teachings are still used to this day in the vanilla industry. Today, Madagascar has become the world's greatest supplier of Vanilla Bean.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Mary Engle Pennington 1872-1952</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Mary Pennington was an American Bacteriological Chemist and a Refrigeration Engineer, who substantially impacted the agriculture and food industry. During the early 1900's, Americans were relocating from Urban Cities, to more rural suburban areas. Alongside this occurance, there was a lack of education among the American citizens in regards to food safety and transportation.<br><br>In 1898, Mary founded the Philadelphia Clinical Laboratory where she studied bacterial anomalies. Later on, the U.S. Department of Agriculture inducted her in 1905 . During this time she created checklists for the dairy industry as well as regulations relating to the cow herds. Shortly after, due to her success she became the Chief of the Food and Drug administration , Food Research Lab in 1908. Mary spent many years educating the public on food safety and sanitation. She created standards for the poultry and dairy industry.&nbsp;<br><br>Mary made a great emphasis regarding the perishability of foods. She patented and designed different prototypes to store and refrigerate goods that would be transported from farm to kitchen. She focused on construction of well regulated insulation within refrigeration cars transporting perishable goods. &nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Norman Borlaug 1914 - 2009</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Also known as, "The Father of the Green Revolution", Norman Borlaug was an American Agronomist who greatly impacted agricultural production.&nbsp;<br><br>After World War 2, there was an emphasis on finding ways to increase growth yields within crop production. At the time, Wheat was a staple grain that was sought worldwide. While the crop was valued, it has been noted that the crop would grow long and high , decreasing the output of grain. Norman developed a dwarf variant of grain in Mexico that produced twice as much of grain in a shorter amount of time than its predecessors, with a short and more stable stem.&nbsp;<br><br>Thanks to Norman Borlaug , his developed grain doubled the amount of production and increased the growth yield, challenging the hunger at the time. His growing methods became a model for other staple crops found worldwide. </div>]]></description>
