I really enjoyed this book. The imagery was unlike anything I had ever seen before in a children's book. As you read the book you tour across the world, and learn many fun facts about animals and wildlife as the seasons change in each particular area. There were a handful of animals, and plants I had never heard of prior to reading this book. I could definitely see this book being implemented around a science based lesson. The was an incredibly sad, but touching story about two young kids who lost their Mother after leaving their abusive Father. Aniyah has a deep love for the stars, and hopes to name a constellation after her Mother. It's an incredibly heart wrenching story of how Aniyah, and her little brother navigate foster care, and life without the constant abuse. I would definitely consider this to be a story for the upper elementary grades. It's a lengthy read, with a lot of emotional elements in the seams. I would use this book in the classroom as maybe a choice read to write a book report on.

El Deafo was such a unique perspective from a deaf child. Especially having gone from hearing to not hearing. The book greatly displayed the struggles the young girl went through with feeling different, and finally finding herself. I think this is a great story to use in the classroom for inclusivity. I really enjoyed this book. Growing up with a Father that was incarcerated for most of my life this was something that really hit home for me. It greatly explains the feelings of not really understanding why said relative is away, but also the judgment you receive from everyone else. I think this would be a great book to incorporate all age levels in elementary. I found this book to super cute, and incredibly relatable for a lot of people.  Growing up I had cousins that I was inseparable with, and then it became only summers just like it t did in this story. I think this story signifies the importance of family, and maintaining relationships no matter the distance. This was a really sweet, heart-wrenching story about one boys journey to freedom. Henry's Freedom Box accurately depicted the happenings during this time period. The book told stories of sorrow, and triumph. I think this would be a great story to incorporate into the classroom around a history lesson, maybe Black History Month. A tie in activity could be seen as having the students illustrate what a freedom box would look like to them. Leo is as real his parents in Henry's eyes. This story shows connection, and a vivid imagination. I think this would be a great story for your younger aged elementary kids who very well could have a similar connection with one of their stuffed animals.

I really loved this book! It actually even made me tear up at one point. I loved that such a young girl felt the need to advocate for not banning books. The relationship between Amy and the librarian was also beautiful. I found this book incredibly easy to read. I would probably introduce this book to my upper elementary age kids. As it is a longer read, and has some themes that the younger ages may not comprehend.

I found this to be a great story that demonstrated perseverance, and believing in yourself.  The way the story was written also makes it a great story for students to shout, and read along with. I would say this book is more geared toward K-3rd grade. As it's pretty interactive, and has a fairly simple concept behind it. This story had beautiful illustrations that paid tribute to the Indian culture. Similar to the traditional Cinderella stories we've all heard before some common themes can be seen. However, this one had a few twists of its own. A Godfather White Snake for starters. I think this story would be most applicable to grades 4th and 5th.

I really enjoyed this book! I listened to it on Youtube with my littles. The book really reminded me of some similar struggles I see between my two kids, there's a two and a half year age gap between mine. Similar to in the story I have to often remind my Son that his little Sister just wants to play with him. The story really greatly depicted the sibling dynamic. I also loved that they incorporated some Spanish really honoring multilingual students. I thought a great tie in activity might be to have the students use resources in the classroom as Essie's brother did to create a wall.

I thought this story was beautiful. For starters, the illustrations were super vibrant and I felt greatly depicted the imagery the author wanted us to see. As you read the story the author does a great job of really putting you there. Her words are beautifully written, and create such a picture. I also love that she tells the story in both Spanish and English. Have students write their own short story or poem about a personal experience they have.

This book did a great job of representing it's culture. However, Najma wants things to change a bit, as she would love to be alongside the people in her neighborhood playing the drums. This book was a great demonstration of teaching children to be themselves, that individually we all have something unique that makes us special, or talented. "A young student receives a family tree assignment in school, but she can only trace back three generations. Grandma gathers the whole family, and the student learns that 400 years ago, in 1619, their ancestors were stolen and brought to America by white slave traders.
But before that, they had a home, a land, a language. She learns how the people said to be born on the water survived."

This was a beautiful, touching story about a young girl who is assigned a project to tell her peers who she is, and where she comes from, "her roots." The young girl is at a loss of where her family originates from, and how to tell her peers. She then approaches her Grandmother who tells the story of her roots all the way from the beginning, to present day. The Grandmother tells a beautiful poetic story of how the African American culture started, of the horrific things that happened in between, and how their family has persevered to what it is now.
