Villaverde, Sofia Valerie E.
I had been so used to walking on eggshells around others that I couldn't spout hurtful words and break a civil relationship. I had been ignoring the voices in my mind for so long; it was growing tiresome. I'd remain tight-lipped, not minding that I was uncomfortable about it. If I were to be careful of something, it would be someone, myself. I want to strive to care about my inner peace more than I care about others' inner peace.

Personally, self-awareness is something I've already mastered, but I always wonder why it still doesn't work out as planned. It's because I am not aware of the feelings and thoughts of other people.

Later these days, I often find myself in the same situation, stuck with the same thought pattern of disappointment due to my “unrealistic” expectations leading to an imbalanced perspective between others. These situations often led to me undermining others and somehow completely brushing them off of my mind. Now, the lesson slowly made me realize that expecting others to always line up with me can create unnecessary tension for them hampering effective communication. Acknowledging my tendency to use judgemental words is also one of the key tools for the betterment of my interactions with others. By being aware of how others feel about me, I can start putting conscious effort to be more patient, understanding and respectful of my peers to foster an environment containing mutual respect.

- Arvi Cabangon

This also means that we should be mindful on how we react to certain situations, expressing our thoughts and emotions with no management and understanding could lead to negative consequences.

It's really hard to not let your emotions deal with your mentality since it does not only affect you but it also affects other people who are aware of what has been bothering you or even worse, a stranger that doesn't even know you. Recklessness can be verbal but also physical, sometimes I'm always distracted or rather deserted in my own world to the point that I just don't care about other people around me. I'm still learning how to adjust to certain social groups in order to not initiate uncomfortability but then again, change takes time and constant efforts.

As a teenager, it's important to understand the importance of managing impulsive reactions to your emotions. In the heat of the moment, it can be all too easy to react without thinking, and this can lead to negative consequences that you might later regret. Whether it's an argument with a friend, a stressful school situation, or a disagreement at home, taking a moment to pause and reflect before responding can make a world of difference. It allows you to gain perspective, consider the potential outcomes of your actions, and choose a more thoughtful, constructive response. This simple act of self-control not only helps you avoid impulsive mistakes, but it also promotes better communication and more positive interactions with others, both of which are essential in developing good relationships and reaching your goals. So, remember that taking that small pause to reflect before reacting can be an effective method for managing adolescence.

- Jarvis Emmanuel P. Razon

Just like every other adolescents people encounter in today's world and era, I tend to bottle up all my emotions and keep it only to myself. Sometimes, I do vent or rant to friends who I trust most. I think that this is the way how I keep handling my emotions. With these in mind, I've learned how to handle these emotions pretty well with the help of my bestfriend. She tells me advices and suggestions that pretty much helped me throughout the years. I've learned to become a proficient listener which I think also helps with how I handle my emotions and others emotions as well. Through expressing our emotions and presence towards what they said and how they feel, by not invalidating their emotions and being understanding of their state, they'll feel gradually better and pick themselves up piece by piece to complete yet another masterpiece of them, or simply; the best version of themselves!

My heart and mind have always been against each other in every situation I have experienced. It’s very rare to see that they agree with each other. They both have their own pros and cons; however, I need to find a way to balance them both.

I have always been that person who follows the heart, and sometimes my heart is the reason why I get hurt. My heart is selfless and puts others before myself. I have always experienced hardships, as long as the people I value don't experience them. But sometimes it’s not reciprocated. Sometimes the ending is that I was always taken for granted.

However, as time passed, I started to listen to the brain, but its choices were always so difficult. It doesn’t match up to what I want, but I know it’s the right choice. It’s always telling me to find my self-value. But if I did, since I have always been the person who follows my heart, people tend to think that I am selfish for prioritizing myself.

If I follow my heart, it satisfies me because I get to make other people happy, but sometimes it is not appreciated. However, if I followed my brain, I would get the chance to avoid pain from others and see my own worth, but it would still be hard for me since it would not satisfy my needs.

Now, I want and need to find a way to balance them both. I need to find a way where my heart and mind are both in favor. It should be that I get to satisfy my heart while having to value myself as my brain wants. It won't be easy, but it’s a process.

Expressing emotions can be hard for some. I myself have had difficulties expressing some of my emotions that is why people often perceive me as someone who lacks emotions. Most of the time, I follow what’s in my head, which is a good thing but, too much is not good therefore I also have to learn how to express my feelings more. Showing emotions is innate within humans, some may feel that they differ as they do think that not everyone feels or expresses like them.

Sometimes, following your heart is also good, because in that sense, you let yourself feel things, release the negativity and express yourself truly. Bottling up emotions inside you suppresses every emotion on top of each other which would then lead to an outburst in the future.

According to psychologist Perpetua Neo, when someone is asked why can’t they trust their feelings, it is because of resentment from their past experiences. He said that we must try to incorporate these feelings with our rational thoughts which would help us express ourselves better. With that said, I try to follow what he said as I did have difficulties in the past. Now, I can say that I try to grow and express myself more.

I am more careful of expressing my emotions. As an expressive person, I tend to overshare or overexpress my emotions in every situation. It is totally different from overreacting, as for me overexpressing is not an exaggerated reaction but more on expressing myself too much. For example, I am stressed with school workloads and other extracurricular activities, right away I will rant it out or express how I feel about the situation. There are times that I believe there is a better way for me to handle my emotions rather than just letting it out immediately. It is not my intention to say that expressing your emotions is a bad thing but we should first analyze how we feel before letting it out.

#perdev #qshs #life #husayquesay

When it comes to managing our own emotions, it is inevitable to experience both positive and negative feelings that may have an impact on our mental, spiritual, physical, and social well-being. As a young adolescent approaching 18, I have come to realize the importance of acknowledging and understanding the emotions I experience. Instead of placing blame on others, it is beneficial to reflect on the causes of these emotions and recognize that all of them are natural and acceptable and this self-awareness helps in calming oneself and once I have identified and comprehended my emotions, I can determine how best to express them. Additionally, seeking assistance in challenging situations is crucial because there are times when we cannot easily overcome difficult emotions. If feelings of sadness or worry persist for an extended period or if there is a risk of self-harm or harm to others, seeking extra support may be necessary.

In the vast landscape of emotions, I've discovered the importance of setting boundaries to navigate the complex web of feelings. Imagine a situation where a friend pours out their sorrow, burdening my shoulders. While I empathize, I now recognize the need to shield myself from absorbing their entire emotional storm. It's like sensing a thunderstorm's thrilling force but hiding behind a wall to avoid getting struck by lightning. I've learned to encourage others while protecting my own emotional surroundings by embracing this metaphor, ensuring that I remain a steady and dependable presence in our interactions.

- Kaylie Rosas Vecinal

Dealing with our emotions is not as easy as it sounds, and as we try handling different situations, emotions overlap with the ability of our mind to think critically about the scenarios that we are currently facing. Most of the time, I deal with my emotions by ranting my thoughts to the people I know without realizing that it does influence their feelings and emotions too. As we became aware that this can affect us in different ways, we should be careful when choosing the ways to control our emotions, how to cope with stress from our environment, and how to mind our actions, that is, to think critically before acting or expressing our emotions. I should keep in mind that others feelings are valid and should be valued, and as we express ours, we should be considerate of expressing ours too. Just like a puppeteer, we should control the puppet representing our emotions.

As I tend to fight for what I think is right, and stand up for myself whenever I feel wronged, I come out to most people as someone who has anger issues. They aren't wrong. But this fear of mine has reached the point that I fear speaking because even if I think about the next words I utter, I might insult someone's situation again. I might offend someone again. I might get into another fight that I will come out as the villain because of the person that I'm speaking to does not understand my intentions properly. I do not necessarily say yes and shut my mouth the rest of the conversation, but I tend to rather not speak at all that to speak and be misunderstood. Less talk, less mistakes. My mother taught me that well, and that has resonated to my life's everyday situation more than I needed it to be. With this I realize that some people are willing to listen and that I should just find the right people, right words and right time for myself to speak.

I used to have this ocd-esque perfectionism. The smallest of inconveniences would bother me, as if there was an exact picture in my head, guiding me as I put the puzzle pieces back into place. This would pose as a weakness of mine as I would constantly fix a small error as long as it fits my ideal description, sacrificing practicality and time. This gave me complete satisfaction, but at the expense of being totally frustrated when things don't go my way.

But nowadays, I am a lot more reserved in approaching things in life. I learned that seeing things the way they were originally intended was way more fulfilling than hyperfixing on the tiniest of details, allowing me to focus on the bigger picture more.

To have an immense passion, it is expected for one to experience emotions deeply. It can be a huge advantage and disadvantage for having such passion. Experiencing emotions with a huge intensity can lead to a reaction of an intensity so similar. With this in mind, it’d be best to rationalise one’s self and try to take a breather to have a better understanding of the situation before taking any further action. To think of it, if one were to express their emotions in aspects such as writing or drawing or any expression of these emotions in a tangible form would be a great way to look back on the experience and to rationalise.

- Pabillar, Ray Emmanuel J.

It's essential to be more careful about not neglecting my own emotions and struggles, and seek support when needed, without worrying about inconveniencing others. I've realized that self-care is not selfish, and it's perfectly fine to open up to trusted friends or seek professional guidance when I need it.

I often find myself struggling with my emotions, which can lead to imbalanced responses when interacting with others. At times, I either express my feelings too intensely or bottle them up, making it incredibly challenging to communicate about my emotions. However, I'm actively working on this aspect of myself with the support of my friends and loved ones. I'm striving to accept my thoughts and emotions as they come, rather than attempting to conceal them until I reach a breaking point. I'm learning the importance of kindness in my interactions, as words have the power to hurt, regardless of the intentions behind them.

— Sam Suarez 🍥 🎀 🍡

I've recently realized that making impulsive decisions and being harsh on myself are two unhealthy habits that I'm still working on how to break it. Sometimes, i make decisions out of impulse which causes problems for me and everyone around me. I might impulsively buy something I don't need, or say something hurtful to someone I care about. But now, i'm figuring out how to lessen it. Also i'm known for being too hard on myself. I'm starting to understand that these habits are not serving me well. I want to make better decisions and be more compassionate towards myself. I figured that being forgiving of myself. Everyone makes mistakes. When I make a mistake, I'm trying to be kind to myself and learn from it. I'm also trying to forgive myself more quickly. It's taking time to break these habits, but I'm committed to doing so. I know that it will be worth it in the long run.

Upon reflecting on this lesson, I've recognized that although I seldom experience anger and it's not easily triggered, my reactions during those moments have at times transgressed acceptable boundaries and it often results into me blurting hurtful words towards my peers and loved ones. The newfound understanding of managing intense emotions has enlightened me. Moving forward, I will be more careful and exercise greater caution and sensitivity in my choice of words when I find myself experiencing anger.

Uruma, Princess Reika E.
11 Andromeda

Self-awareness is strongly connected to managing your emotions effectively. Sometimes our emotions can get the better of us. If you think that we're spiraling out of control or being irrational, try assessing yourselves "Is what I'm feeling justifiable? What is the right to do in this kind of situation?". When we are aware of what we're feeling and we have a grasp of what is happening around us, then more often than not, we will be able to approach the situation in a calm manner which, in turn, help in avoiding conflicts with one another.

There are times when I’m prone to self-isolation and anxiety when I felt empty or sad or when I simply felt joyous and we become impulsive. When my emotions contradicts my mind, I tend to do impulsive things especially when I’m over-joyed and I think like “go ko na to, minsan lang naman”. (YOLO momentum) that I ignore the truth from the situation itself so I’m trying to have the courage to let go things and validate my emotions towards situations that will help me to attain emotional stability and fulfillment that maybe there is nothing really wrong with me, that I am overweighting too much thinking, but the situation it. Thus, it affects my everyday mood, lose my productivity and exhaust my mental health. With this, I find it difficult to evaluate what I feel especially verbalizing that affects my communication skills but I’m trying to improve it by journaling and choosing wisely trustworthy friends who patiently understand me.

I should stop the thinking “I am on my own” because friends are there when I’m struggling and at my lowest, the goal is I should hone my understanding to our boundaries, keep in mind the state of the person im sharing to and slowly set my emotions free. Though this could take some time for me since I have never let them out, but there is always a key to every prison, I am starting to reach out for it and soon I could become a better version of myself.

Zelynne Bustamante
11 - Andromeda
