         <description><![CDATA[<div>This resource is a lesson plan that allows teachers to execute a series of activities that teach students what assumptions are, why they are significant, and how everyone makes assumptions implicitly all the time without realizing it. <br><br>The lesson follows a pretty typical model in which the teacher begins by putting students into small groups based on common interests. From there, students are asked to reflect independently on their own identity and how they are perceived by others.<br><br>The teacher is meant to leverage this into meaningful small-group discussions that address each of those questions, while also pivoting the conversation towards any experiences the students have with targeted harassment, profiling, and so on. Different forms of assumptions that have a negative impact.<br><br>Finally, a large group discussion where they break down a few essential questions about assumptions while reflecting on the personal experiences they've shared.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Based off of a novel wherein kids who had been battered by bullies, who successfully created a party in their student council called "no name calling" 40 schools have instituted a "No name calling Week." <br><br>" Overall, victimization based on appearance or body size was by far the most<br>commonly reported type of bias-related victimization. It’s important to note that LGBTQ students more<br>frequently experienced sexual harassment, having rumors/lies spread about them, property damage, and<br>cyberbullying than their non-LGBTQ peers.2 It is clear that name-calling in schools is a problem." <br><br>Whether effective initially or not, having an official "No Name Calling" week brings awareness to slurs and to the damage it does to others. It also gives a space for students to advocate for a safe space in their classroom and school that addressses their concerns. Overall, NN Week is a great idea and a step in the right direction.</div>]]></description>
