On Friday, April twenty-fourth, it was my friend Irene’s birthday. A few of my friends, including my two best friends Cristina and Daniela, all participated in a surprise zoom call to celebrate with her. We chatted and my friend Anya and I showed everyone our instruments. Anya has a ukulele and guitar, and I have a ukulele. The zoom program allows the participants to change their backgrounds. As a joke, I changed mine to Bertram from Jessie, who happens to be trending all over TikTok. After changing it to Bertram, some people decided to change their backgrounds to their celebrity crush. I made mine David Corenswet, my celebrity crush who plays River in the fabulous Netflix series, The Politician. The Politician tells the story of a young boy named Payton, played by Ben Platt, who runs for his class president. The series makes fun of current politics with its over-the-top drama and exciting events. Daniela and I had a sleepover once and we watched The Politician. It was my second time watching the show and Daniela’s first. She loved it! I miss all my friends and can hopefully have a sleepover with them after quarantine. Still, we FaceTime often and do Netflix parties. Netflix party is a Google extension that allows friends to watch movies together and chat in a chat room. On Thursday, April 23, Daniela and I did a Netflix party and the movie was horrible! It was about this girl who is about to get married but her fiancé cheats on her. So, to show to her dad that she is responsible, she makes this guy pretend that he is her fiancé. It was terrible. It made me realize something: I miss my friends!

The HuffPost has a whole section of weird and unique news stories. One of which details the story of a man who won lottery money twice in a row. I found this story to be a breath of fresh air from all of the morbid corona articles. It reminded me of how whenever my grandparents would come down from New York. My grandma would take me to Publix and we would get a lottery ticket. She would let me pick the numbers and keep any money (if it was below one hundred dollars). We planned to win big and split the money. However, the most that we have ever won is seven dollars.

I enjoy getting the time to relax with my family and not have to run out and drive everyone to different activities.

Me: How is today different from other days of quarantine?

Her: Well, my sewing machine broke so I couldn't make any masks today... and I was on a roll.

Me: What does your family need today that you might not have/have enough of/ have the ability to acquire?

That question really made her think.

Her: Hmmmmm. However, she revealed to me that when she watched the Stephen Sondheim tribute, Neil Patrick Harris’s daughter had blue hair. She figured that if Neil Patrick Harris could let his daughter dye her hair blue, so could she. Thus, we dyed my hair a blue color that slightly looks black. I love it! I never thought my mother would allow me to dye it. Thanks, Neil!

On Saturday, I made bread. It was a very simple recipe, for all that is required is flour, salt, yeast, and water and the only steps are to mix the ingredients, let it rise for two hours, and bake on an oven stone for forty minutes. There was left over dough, and today, I decided to make more bread. The bread was much more delectable today than it was on Saturday. The outside was perfectly crunchy where the inside was doughy and delicious. My father, who was a big critic of the last bread, said that this was the best bread of the household. Quinn, my little brother, loved it and ate the rest of it at dinner. Tonight’s dinner was delicious. During this past winter break, my two best friends, Daniela and Cristina, and I attended a cooking event where we made numerous dishes. One of which was honeycomb pasta, which was like lasagna but using rigatoni standing up. I suggested that my mom make it for dinner and she did. It was marvelous! However, I doubt she’ll ever make it again, for it took two hours to make. Nevertheless, it was fabulous and one of the best quarantine dinners yet.

I’m in a group chat with a few of my school friends and they pointed out that this is the eighth week of online school. Though I’m slightly skeptical about that, I find it shocking. There was an Instagram post that talked about how time went very slowly in March, but in April, it went by in “eight minutes.” I agreed, for the only events of April I remember are my puppy’s, Torres, first birthday and April Fools. For April Fools, my older brother, Wylie, and I had hung comical photos around our house. It was nothing inappropriate, mostly of political figures that my parents dislike. One was edited to look like the boy from Disney’s Up. So, I hung that from the fan in our living room. We were so excited. However, my mother ruined the plan by taking down most of the pictures. She criticized us for wasting paper, but my dad reminded her that it was April Fools and no big deal. That day, my little brother tried to prank me by knocking on my door and running away. To get my evil revenge 😈, I slowly crept to my door. Not a sound was heard. Then, I silently twisted my door knob and screeched, “RAWWWWW!” Quinn, standing outside the door, screamed! It was hilarious. Though I know that my family has been going crazy in quarantine, there have been some fun moments.

During quarantine, the Netflix show Tiger King has become very popular. It details the story of cats, murder, and so much more. A woman named Carole Baskin is in the show. I drew a picture of my dog Torres as Carole Baskin because I thought it would be comical and I was bored.

Interview with Dani

My final interview was with my fellow Leo and one of my best friends Daniela. As I like to call her, Dani.

Me: How does quarantine impact your life?

Her: I cannot go anywhere except my house. I’ve gotten more focused on school and music. It’s kind of a positive experience even though I miss social interaction.

Me: Is there anything open in your neighborhood?

Her: No, everything is closed. But there are these people that have golf carts with lights that have music. And there are people walking.

Me: What made today special?

Her: Today was the first day with a new schedule.

Me: How’s life?

Her: It’s actually pretty good. I’ve started eating healthy, working out, and I feel good.

Me: What's your least favorite thing?

Her: That’s hard…. well.. I guess that I miss social interaction a bit. But also… I don’t know. I think that's it.

Me: What are you grateful for?

Her: Music because I’ve been singing all day. My family because I wouldn't be able to quarantine by myself.

Overall, Dani was a joy to interview. She gave extra details, unlike my mother, and allowed me to take my time, unlike Quinn. I’ve come to a conclusion: quarantine is starting to become the new normal. Everyone is finally situated. I think that after quarantine is over, people will struggle to get back into the flow of things.
