Arts help children with the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness.
Children can make sense of science content easier if they draw, paint, model etc... parts of the content they are learning. It is part of the traditional Waldorf curriculum where I used to teach. There are endless ways to engage children in the science content with arts.
Example: My students were learning about erosion and how a river can create a canyon over millions of years. After we learned about erosion they had to show their thinking on how a canyon would form by river erosion with colored pencil drawings. If time is not an issue modeling clay would be great for this too.

Word mirroring to learn difficult vocabulary (Explanation)

Our school uses Grace Dearborn strategies and we had the chance to hear her workshop about this live last month.
Word mirroring (you can put some dance moves in it) is a great way to remember science vocabulary words. Movement and speaking help the brain memorize things easier. You can also use it for short phenomena too.
Example: I used this technique to teach children about the movement of tectonic plates when we learned about volcanos.

Singing is great way to learn content. If you can't find a song about a specific science content you are teaching (you probably won't) you can also pick a well known song and create your own science lyric to it. You can even add some dance moves. It is fun, engaging and children will remember songs (and most importantly content) for a long time.
Example: I gave my student the challenge to do this to learn about "How environmental changes affect our landscape over millions of years?" I quickly realized they are a little too young to do this on their own, so next time I will come up with it for them:).
