It appears to be very important in Jonas's community for everyone to be the same and everyone to have the same qualities. If there is a person that does something different, someone points it out and its embarrassing to them. Being similar is very important in Jonas's community. I can prove this on page 38 where a friend has to take pills every morning. He is embarrassed of this fact and wishes nobody knows about it. There is nothing wrong with being different in our community because in Jonas's community, everyone "or at least majority people " are the same. Though, in our community, everyone is different, sure some people are similar, but know one is %100 the same. In our community when we see someone different, we have no reaction because it is unusual for some one to be the same where in Jonas's community, it is the other way around. As you can clearly see, in Jonas's community, sameness is very important and in our community, sameness does not matter because to us it is normal.

Sameness is crucial in Jonas' community. I believe this because the laws limit the amount of freedom given to the citizens. For example, all of the people must ride bikes when traveling to another part of the community. Also, all citizens have somewhat the same routine. For example, in the book, it stated that every night, people would conclude their dinner with a ritual. Being different was always something that they try to hide and keep silent about. Differences are unusual to their society. In my community on the other hand, sameness isn't prior to our lives. Unlike Jonas' community, we strive to be different, but in a good way. We travel to places differently, we have a variety of routines, and most of all, we be ourselves. Uniqueness is what keeps my community fascinated. It keeps us interested and makes us willing to do something new. Sameness isn't vital to my community, but it's essential to Jonas' community.

In Jonas' community, similarity is vital, this is because diversity leads to people finding themselves either superior or inferior, therefore obliterating the chance at there being a Utopian society because it cancels out equality . This is shown in a variety of ways in "The Giver", for example in chapter five it explains how Jonas' curiosity was discouraged and didn't want to ask a question about Asher's (a friend of his) diversity. This shows that even curiosity, commonly a strong emotion, can be doused by the desire to not be in the awkward situation of contradictory. This is also shown in chapter three of of "The Giver" where Jonas describes the rarity of pale eyes in his community, then elucidates how no one really ever pointed that out because it was considered rude, and it was almost an unwritten rule to talk of ones differences. In other words, it was almost against the rules to converse over the topic of diversity, because it made many feel uncomfortable to be different than others. In contrast, to Jonas' society my society relishes in our differences that we try to embrace and helps us learn to admire and respect others for their unique differences. So, in other words for the most part sameness lacks importance in my community besides the accepton of relationships because some may find that being able to relate to each other makes relationships, such as friendships, easier. As you can see, monotony is of extreme importance to Jonas' society.

In Jonas' utopian community sameness is very important. They all do the same tasks most of the day. It is only in service hours that they get to do what they each want to do. In chapter five, the author explains how it is a morning ritual for the family to share their dreams. Ritual meaning that it is preformed in a regular practice. In our society it is not a request that we share our dreams or even eat meals at the same time. In Jonas' community the citizens to not question way they do everything the same. They grew up knowing not to point out diversity because it might cause somebody to feel uncomfortable. In conclusion, sameness is important in their community, and not so much in ours.

Throughout the book, it appears that sameness plays a huge role in Jonas' community. For instance, throughout the day the Utopian people would conduct a ritual with their family, for example taking pills or saying their dreams in the morning. It does not matter if you are different or "weird" compared to your community. In our community, it does not really matter if you are different, as our world is filled with tons of uniqueness and that nobody is 100% the same. To sum up, in our community, sameness is not that important in our community, while in Jonas' community, sameness plays a big role as in the book there are many examples of sameness (for example, rituals throughout the day) in their community.

Sameness plays an essential role in Jonas' community because in his society, being divergent is wrong. In the Utopian society, everyone is equal, and everything is perfect. If you're different, you get either confronted by the loud speaker, or you get punished in a more severe way. The importace of equality is shown in The Giver in chapter 4, page 27, the text states, "Jonas was impressed by the things Benjamin had acheived. He knew, of course, since they had always been groupmates, but they had never talked about the boy's accomplishents because such a conversation would have been awkward for Benjamin. There was never any uncomfortable way to mention or discuss one's success without breaking the rule against bragging, even if one didn't mean to. It was a minor rule, rather like rudeness, punishable only by a gentle chastisement. But still." This shows that even if people are applauding others of their accomplishments, that would be considered making the other person more superior to the one praising them, which means that it can't happen if the Utopian society wants to remain neutral and equal. Additionally in chapter 5, page 37 the text states, "He remembered that there was a reference to the Stirrings in the Book of Rules, though he didn't remember what it said. And now and then the speaker mentioned it. ATTENTION. A REMINDER THAT STIRRINGS MUST BE REPORTED IN ORDER FOR TREATMENT TO TAKE PLACE." This shows that in Jonas' society, you aren't allowed to maintain admirable emotions for someone because you wouldn't be assigned a spouse, because you might not like them. With this, the Utopian society wouldn't be as "perfect."

I agree with your opinion and think that the large amounts of rules definitely sort of handcuff the quantity of self expression and choices the people in the community get, so they are limited to the amounts of diversity they have. Although, I find your colossal vocabulary to be remarkable, I politely disagree with the statement where you say "Sameness isn't vital to my community". I believe this because in many situations, people find their similarities (even if there aren't as many similarities as there are in Jonas' community) with others a positive thing, because it allows them to relate to one another. So, personally in my opinion I find sameness kinda-sorta important in our community. But, besides that I believe that your response is totally right about how sameness is crucial in Jonas' community.

In Jonas' society equality plays a big role in his society. Since he lives in a Utopian society everyone has to be equal. In other words if everyone there weren't equal then the society wouldn't be a Utopian society. One example, of equality playing a big role is with the ceremonies. Every child gets the same thing at the same time. Its not like some don't get a bike. No. Everyone gets the same things. The only time were they don't show equality is in the ceremony of 12. Each person can get a different job. As we know the ceremonies are really important to the society. They're almost as important as the games from the Hunger Games. Another example of equality playing a big role in this society is with what they all do. For instance, if you are late to class you have to say the same thing every single time. We can clearly see this when Asher is late to school and he has to say a speech about why he is late or an apology. As you can see, equality plays a humongous role in Jonas' society.

In Jonas' community being similar is a very crucial and important thing in their community. They all go through the same process, like for example they all go through the ceremonies together at the same time for the most part. Also, they're are some hints left throughout the book about how differences are to not be pointed out. A case in point, would be in a couple chapters back it mentioned how Jonas had paler eyes compared to everyone else in the community, but no one would talk about it. Another example, would be in this chapter where Jonas' had revealed that he did not mention Asher's differences from everyone else (taking pills to stop the Stirrings) because it stated, "...because it might fall into that uncomfortable category of "being different." It almost seems like it's taboo to be different in Jonas' commmunityIn our society being the same isn't all that important. Here in the U.S. there are many different races, cultures, beliefs, and so much more. No one person is exactly the same, however while growing up many people may believe that they have to be the same as the people around them to fit in. Everyone here comes from different backgrounds, heritages, religions, and so much more, so this is why I believe that similarity isn't that much of a vital aspect in my society. Conclusively, similarity seems to be much more important in Jonas' community, but not as important in ours.

Sameness or similarity, turns out to be very important in Jonas' community. After all, Jonas lives in a Utopian society, where everyone is equal, and if you were different, or did something other than what you were supposed to do, you were to have a punishment, or get called out by the speaker. One piece of evidence that shows that similarities are important in Jonas' community, is in chapter 5 page 38, it states, "Always better, less rude, to talk about things that were the same." This shows that it is better to talk about people's similarities, since everyone is equal, than it is to talk about their differences. However, in my community, similarities, don't matter. In my community, if you were different that would be fine, because when you are different you are unique. Too add on, there are many diverse people we would see walking around, and it wouldn't matter. To conclude, these are the reasons why similarities play a big role in Jonas' community, and why similarities aren't important in my community.

Our differences are what makes life exciting, and we can learn from one another because of them. This way, we can also learn to accommodate others' differences into our way of life.

In my point of view, sameness plays a very huge role in Jonas' community. Since Jonas lives in a Utopian society, everybody mainly acts the same or does a specific thing the same way. For instance, everybody who has "stirrings" must take some sort of pill to relieve it. First off, WHY do you need to do that? Isn't it normal to have those types of dreams? On the contrary, I think sameness in my community never really matters. In my community, everybody has their own UNIQUE and DIFFERENT personalities, and sameness is out of the picture. For example, all of us have different looks. That makes us different from each other, so we can see who each of us really are! In Jonas' community, everybody may have different faces, but the rest of their style may look the same as everybody else's. As you can see, sameness in Jonas' community plays a very large role, while my community doesn't. My community is not based on sameness, I believe it's based on uniqueness.

The equality/sameness in Jonas' community is very significant, since their community is a Utopian Society, which is known for the equality in that society. In the book, "The Giver" by Lois Lowry, on page 34, it states, "Usually, at the morning ritual, when the family members told their dreams, Jonas didn't contribute much." This proves every morning, they have to share their dreams from last night, which I believe every family does so. To add, on page 5, it states, "'Who wants to be the first tonight, for feelings?' Jonas' father asked, at the conclusion of their evening meal." This shows, not only do they share dreams every morning, they also share their feelings every evening as every family does in their community. Lastly, on page, 13, it states, "The children all received their bicycles at Nine..." This explains how their society is very equal since every child gets a bike at a certain age. I believe my community shows importance for both equality and uniqueness. Although, in my community, the equality is on average, as we aren't too in depth with having everyone on the page. In certain ways, we show equality, for instance we don't have separation of schools anymore from white and black, but we are definitely not like Jonas' community. Additionally, my community can be considered unique, since there are many different people around, as well as different tasks.

I agree with you because in Jonas' community, everyone gets their bike at a certain age, although in our community it differs. Although, I would like to point out that sameness may not be a huge part on our community, but it has a part, just not a very important one. So, overall, I agree with you, since Jonas' community is a Utopian Society representing sameness, and our community representing uniqueness.

In Jonas' community everybody is treated the same and equally. However in the community that I live in, we are recognized for being different in our community. As a matter of fact, it is very rare for someone to be or share the exact personlaity as someone else. Another thing that Jonas' community has that differs from our community is, "The Giver." In our society we don't have a giver. In fact we habe already experienced what the giver have seen or felt.Take animals as an example. The giver already probably knows what animals are. We already probably seen them and touched them. Lastly, Jonas' community gets very frightned when there is something unusual. Even the slightest thing can cause a big commotion. However in my community, unusual things aren't common but, we don't have a lock down for everything that is unusual. In conclusion, this is what differ from my community and Jonas' community.

I agree on what every thung you said. One thing that I forgot to put in my writting was the fact that there everyd ay life was very similar to the next day. There everday life in the society was doing the same thing, like talking about there day and shating your dream. Another thing I agreed with you was the equality part. No one is segregated because all they could see is black and white. AND the only was someone can be higher then someone is if they are an elder

I agree with you that we live in a very diverse community, but would like to add that we live in a place where we can be free and do as we please. For example, we all have our beliefs and rituals. It would we weird if the government decided that we all have to do everything exactly alike. This is why I agree with you that sameness is really important in Jonas' community.

Sameness is very important in Jonas's society because it is a Utopian Society. Everything is decided and equal so that people do not understand and show emotions that may cause hurt, pain, suffering, competition,, etc and interrupt the peace. The future is assigned and there is no option to choose that causes unhappiness. For example, children are assigned to their family units. They are never given the option of meeting their real birthmothers because that could cause real hurt and pain.
In my community, we celebrate people's differences. People have the freedom to act how they want to act and feel what they want to feel regardless of what people think. This causes real human relationships that are forbidden in a Utopian world because emotions can interrupt the peace. People in our community can feel happy, sad, hurt, excited, angry, devastated and more. These feelings can create negative things like hunger, loss, competition, etc. As you can see sameness is important in Jonas's community however not important in my community.
