I was also surprised when her grandfather started telling her to tell the truth instead of lying like the rest of her family was suggesting.

The author makes the reader feel like they are Celestine by using many sensory details. For example, she mentions how she can smell her own flesh burning. She talks about seeing her family watching her and how sad and mad they look. She also mentions how she doesn't feel anything on the spot they're branding, but she still feels pressure on her chest. All of these sensory details help the reader create an image and understand how Celestine feels.

The pace of the text is going by very fast. She spends time in the court room and then she goes straight to the room she will get branded. I feel like I cant stop reading because something new happens every chapter. Most books, it'll take tons of time to discuss why Celestine did what she did, but in Flawed, once Celestine admitted shes flawed the court stopped right after. She went straight to the room, they said she has 5 different places on her body that the flawed stamp will go. No time is wasted during this book. This impacts me while im reading because I cant put the book down.

The changes of Celestine, the central character, has impacted me because at the beginning of the story she was the perfect poster girl who you would have never imagined as being flawed. Now that she told the truth, but it's not the truth that people want to hear, she is deemed flawed. This impacts my ideas about the story because it makes me wonder if I would have done what she did. She is a very brave character for making a stand and I don't think I would have been able to do that if I knew my life would be completely flipped and my freedoms would be taken away.

I think that the theme of the novel is individual vs. society. At first, Celestine believes that the rules of her society are understandable, but as the story continues, she believes they are unfair and corrupt. Because she herself does something that makes her flawed, she begins to see all of the problems of the system. Instead of lying in the court to save herself, she admits to being flawed because it is the right thing to do. As the story goes on, she learns that it is her against her society full of normal people who think flawed people are disgusting.

I think the theme of the novel is overcoming obstacles. At first, Celestine thinks her society has good enough rules and she thinks they are all able to be followed. After going on the bus and experiencing a man almost die she realizes that her society is insane. She now is standing up for herself and her society which is a complete obstacle. The society she is surrounded by thinks flawed people are gross and disturbing. Flawed people are treated differently and she has to live with it for the rest of her life. This book is telling you everything happens for a reason and you will go through tons of obstacles throughout life.

During this part of the book, I felt very frustrated because I really want Celestine and Art to end up in the future. I dont like how Art was with Celestines sister. Also, I hated how the group of friends invited Celestine to a party to basically harass and strip her down naked just so they could see her flaws. It made me connect to highschool parties now a days when the seniors make fun of the freshmen at parties. I was at the edge of my seat throughout this part of the book, because I knew Celestine would barely make it home in time and I sort of saw those kids locking Celestine in the barn before it even happened.

During these chapters I felt like Celestine finally was getting what she deserved. She deserved to have people who believe what she did was right and who support her. Pia was finally helping her instead of just using her for an interesting story. She was even writing about her using a different name. She also found out that her teacher was part of a group who supported flawed people. I was glad Celestine finally had a few people on her side. I was also mad though because everytime she tried to find someone who could prove that Judge Crevan was bad, it didn’t work out. All of the gaurds didn’t work there anymore. Mr. Berry couldn’t be reached at all. And Carrick was just unable to be found. I was frustrated because everytime she was close to proving her point, her plan failed.
