This universal "happiness" is achieved in three ways. First, psychological conditioning is used to ensure that each citizen is not only suited to their job and role, but actually prefers that role to anything else. Second, through the promotion of promiscuous sex as virtuous and the elimination of families or any long-term relationship, the government ensures that no one will ever face intense and unreciprocated emotional or sexual desire. And third, whatever sadness slips through the cracks can be brushed away by using soma, a drug with no side-effects that gives the user a pleasant high and makes all worries dissolve away. “And that...is the secret of happiness and virtue—liking what you've got to do. All conditioning aims at that: making people like their unescapable social destiny.”

In the first chapter the concept of individuality is introduced as something that is discouraged. Bernard Marx is introduced as someone who is dissatisfied with his place in society and looks for something more. He is different from others in his class. Which makes him feel like an outsider. “We also predestine and condition. We decant our babies as socialized human beings, as Alphas or Epsilons, as future sewage workers or future…” He was going to say “future World controllers,” but correcting himself, said “future Directors of Hatcheries.” (pg.7) Bernard has desire for individuality in a world where you don't have the choice too be someone.

In Chapter 1 by picturing those systems taken to their illogical conclusions, Brave New World critiques the industrial economic systems of the time it was written. The World State is designed with industrialism and consumption from the ground up; it is essentially how people are created. The novel begins with a detailed account of the process of mass-producing humans: When Bokanovsky's Process is used, one fertilized egg "was in a fair way to becoming anything from eight to ninety-six embryos—a prodigious improvement, you will agree, on nature."

The novel Brave New World cautions against handing over new, potent technologies to the government. One example of this theme is the strict control of reproduction through technology and medical intervention, including hypnopaedic conditioning, surgical ovarian excision, and the Bokanovsky Process. An example in the book would be on (page 10 ch.1 )' no longer anonymous, but named and identified .' meaning we are indicated who or what we are .

On page 7, the director says "Bokanovsky's Process is one of the major instruments of social stability". On the previous page we are able to learn about the Bokanovsky Process and how it affects the fertilization process, showing the theme of dystopia and totalitarianism as the creation of life isn't what we see in our current society, and the intentional harmful effects that the buds are put through in order to establish social stability.

This section focuses on the application of psychological technologies to influence future World State residents' behavior. Each person is trained to behave exactly like the next as a result of conditioning and prenatal treatment, which results in persons without uniqueness. We see how in chapter 2 also they have a color coding for the level the kids are now trying to maintain thereby controlling them for having no access to books so they can gain knowledge and the flowers represent nature they do not want them to have the sensation of freedom. Both represent the book's central themes of control and dystopia. An example would be on (page 27 ) " Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with delta children and epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read and write ."

In chapter 2, we gain a deeper insight into the classes of the dystopia and the process that the people are forced to endure to keep order between the classes. On page 22, we see the process that is used and its effects on infants, the director says "They'll grow up with what the psychologists used to call an 'instinctive' hatred of books and flowers". This "instinctive" hatred is caused by electrically shocking the infants when they are showed books or flowers. This is used to prevent them from attempting to explore the outside world and rather focus on their job, which may vary depending on their class. On page 25, we also learn of another process used to establish social stability, which is called "hypnopedia". Then on page 27, we listen to the excerpt that is spoken to the Beta class that tells them of their class and to be proud they are a Beta. Both themes are clearly present in this chapter as we learn of the desperate measures that the director goes through to make sure the classes and social stability is establish.

The straightforward statement "They all look the same" makes it clear that they were all mass made. Additionally, it is demonstrated to us how even after they reach adulthood, citizens can still contribute to the economy in positive ways, one of which is through transportation. On page 23, it is written that " At the sometime, we see to it that all country sports shall entail the use of elaborate apparatus. So that they consume manufactures articles as well as transport." These people are used to support the economic states by buying use of transports.

Next, the Director explains the origins of hypnopaedia (sleep-teaching). In the days when “Our ford ” was still alive, a Polish boy, Reuben, went to sleep one night while the radio was broadcasting in English. He woke up the next morning able to recite exactly what had been playing on the radio, even though he didn't understand it. "But even the alfas have been well conditioned. The babies are in many different forms of conditioning. Like electric shocks, in order to instill in them under control and out of any kind of individuality or independent thought. "There was a wisper under every pillow"(pg.27) It mentions how easily they conditioned them while they sleep. Molding them into something they don't have too be. According to one definition of industrialism, it is a system that serves the global economy rather than the interests of the customer. They were developed for this purpose—to prevent the mass production of humans and so control the situation of the global economy. As we learned in Chapter 2, they mass-produce them and instill a love of the natural world in them so that they can buy transportation to places that will help the global economy."He put away the soma bottle, and taking out a packet of sex-hormone chewing-gum, stuffed a plug into his cheek and walked slowly away towards the hangars, ruminating" (pg.60).

Bernard is smaller than other alphas and has different interests, such as reading poetry and spending time alone. This chapter emphasizes how tightly the World State controls its people, stifling individuality and fostering conformity through training and narcotics. Additionally, Bernard is introduced, who stands in for a unique individual who is capable of challenging and opposing the system. A key tension that propels the rest of the book is set up by the contrast between the regulated civilization of the World State and the raw, emotional world of the Savage Reservation.

In part 1 of chapter 6, we see the effects of the society that is created when you strip away any form of individuality. After sleeping together, Bernard says to Lenina, "And that's why we went to bed together yesterday - like infants - instead of being adults and waiting" (page 94). There is no connection between people as their sole focus is on being stimulated with the various forms that the World State's offers.

In this chapter, Benard brings Lenina to the Savage Reservation, illustrating how industrialism and consumerism have an impact on society. They learned about the indigenous' unaltered, straightforward manner of life during this time. The sentence on page 104 that follows says, "Ending is better than mending." is used repeatedly not only in this chapter but in the entire book.
The quotation highlights society's fascination with buying new things rather than fixing old ones, encouraging consumers to avoid maintaining their older possessions. This quotation connects to the theme because it highlights the contrast between Bernard and Lenina's industrialized society and the Savage Reservation's more environmentally friendly philosophy.

The Director stresses how the state can maintain social stability by regulating reproduction, conditioning, and other processes. The chapter emphasizes the influence that conditioning and education have. John finds the state's tactics repugnant since he considers them to be inhumane. He expresses his disgust at how children's minds are being manipulated and conditioned to fit social norms. The chapter shows how the conditioning of the state has produced a culture that prefers stability and conformity to individualism and freedom of thinking.

As John struggles with the conflicting values of his childhood on the Savage Reservation and the hedonistic culture he encounters in London, his emotional torment worsens in this chapter. John struggles to fit in with society's expectations but is more and more lonely and disturbed by the lack of true human connection. Lenina's attempt to woo him shatters John's admiration for her, which causes him to lash out in anger. He views Lenina as virtuous and pure. He is presented to Mustapha Mond, the Controller, who discusses the tenets that underpin their civilization. Mond embodies the World State's supreme power and the control it exercises over its people. Mond elaborates on the World State's deliberate design, which attempts to end suffering and increase happiness. He shows how training works to stifle individuality, emotions, and basic human instincts. Technology is used by the society to aid maintain stability and control, such as in the mass production of humans in hatcheries and the pervasive usage of narcotics like soma. Huxley emphasizes the degree of the World State's control over its citizens in Chapter 12 of his book. It highlights the cost of stability and satisfaction, which is the loss of one's uniqueness, feelings, and intellectual interests. As John's character becomes the center of the chapter's exploration of the issue of resistance against a dystopian society, it marks a turning point in the story.

The residents of the World State are intrigued by John's visit and want to see the "savage" from the reserve. Mustapha Mond, who stands in for the society's rulers, is aware of the potential risk John poses to their well designed structure. But they also see a chance to watch his responses and research the impact of a different upbringing. The chapter illustrates the vast amount of influence the World State has over its people. It is made clear that the controllers have been closely observing John's behavior via covert cameras and other types of surveillance. With the government continually monitoring and controlling its population, this underlines the absence of privacy and freedom in the society.Huxley focuses on the struggle between originality and conformity throughout the entire chapter. John's refusal to follow the World State's values, especially when it comes to love and sexuality, emphasizes the value of individual freedom and discretion. The chapter also demonstrates the limits of the controllers' authority because John's defiance of their demands demonstrates the strength of the human spirit. In conclusion, Chapter 16 of "Brave New World" reveals the several control techniques used by the World State to uphold its society structure. It illustrates how the government monitors, shapes, and controls its people. The conflict between originality and conformity is also explored through the figure of John, who poses a threat to the status quo.

John's personal views are at odds with the way he expresses his unique uniqueness in comparison to the civilization. He is now perched atop a lighthouse on an island with a lovely ocean view, but he thinks it's too lovely. He makes a vow to never forget Linda or his treatment of her, and he spends hours atonement. the text on his first night, taken. "He spent the hours on his knees praying," pg. 244.

John is once more being recognized as a distinct savage. His uniqueness and practices more specifically. The act of whipping himself were ultimately documented in a film for all of the brand new world too see. John is surrounded by helicopters, and people are shouting as they get closer to him. "The whip, We-want-the whip" pg. 256. In the end, John let loose on a woman who later approached him from a helicopter, and even though the book doesn't explicitly identify her, I believe it to be Lenina. John ultimately commits suicide at the end of the story.
