"Arunika" is a Bahasa Indonesia word that means "sunrise/passion". I really like this word cause it has double meaning; sunrise and passion. Arunika refers to the color when the sun rises from the horizon, and it's a mix of beautiful colors such as red, yellow, pink even purple. And those beautiful colors altogether can also be seen as the color of passion.

But, I grew up with a dad that loves exploring the etymology of everything and this word has been the most contested in my relationship with him. It comes from the word “to wait” and so my dad told me not to be hopeful because I shouldn’t ever wait when I experience injustice. So I am not sure what it means for realsies.

緣分 is a Mandarin word that describes the thread of connection between people, events, and all living beings. In Taiwan, people often say that all relationships, nurturing or strenuous, involve 緣分. We're taught to honor all of the 緣分 in our lives and not to be too attached to any relationships in a way that drains it. It's also helped me honor all relationships I have.
