Notes about code of ethics for museums:
International: 
  • Article 6.2 of the International Code of Ethics states that museums should be the party to start any movement to return items of cultural importance. Evidenced by the push to return the Aboriginal wing to their original owners, the South Australian Museum has not followed these requirements.
  • Article 6.5 states that the artefacts shown in the museum must be collected in a legal and moral manner, with consent from the group it was taken from. Most of the artefacts, although taken from their owners many years ago, they were still taken illegally, and time doesn't ameliorate the pain the natural owners feel.
  • Article 3 refers to museums being tasked with continuing research. When on my OLE, I should ask questions surrounding the SAM's current research.

Additionally, it contains the bibliography on a range of topics to expand the topics I am knowledgeable in and can ask questions upon. Once I decide on a specific topic or essay question, the research will be focussed solely on that topic. 
My short-term action plan is to make a final decision on my question, then refine it so it is up to a good standard.   •  Forms of evidence:
    • Archaeological sites.
    • The words of classical Greek and Roman scholars.
    • Tracing the development of languages.
    • Oral traditions and stories that have been passed down through the years.
  • Hallstatt Celts were some of the earliest and thus typify early Celts, dating back to 8th to 6th century B.C.E. Named after an Austrian site.
  • La Tene thrived from the 6th to 1st century B.C.E, and their art is the archetypal Celtic art. Named after a Swiss site.
  • Celtic expansion peaked in ~275 B.C.E, spreading from Eire to Iberia to Anatolia. Celtic language and culture has persisted best in the British Isles and North-Western France. 
  • This expansion began in Central Europe and spread westward, following the flow of the rivers. Language was their most powerful force for spreading their culture. 
  • Conjecture over whether Gallic culture was a unified identity or disconsolate groups:

      • Greeks said the Celts were simply to the West, which is unspecific and might simply be a collective noun they made.
  • Coins would establish authority and indicate civilisation. 
  • Celts were called "Keltoi" by the Greeks, and were famed for their mettle (Julius Caesar used German soldiers as bodyguards). They often loaned themselves out to other civilisations. 
  • Respected the dead and the natural world.
  • 6000-5000 B.C.E had many Celts taking many resources from the sea, leading to contact with other civilisations.
