         <description><![CDATA[<div>This PDF is an explanation of a Middle School program and its approaches for intervening to better support and "bridge the gap" for the students who struggle the most in math/reading.&nbsp; This document explains the process that the program uses to identify and select students, and then also explains the strategies used and many of the benefits accomplished for improving math understanding.&nbsp; Even though I would not be able to use a program like this, I have ideas about something similar but on a much smaller scale in my classroom, where I can try suggested strategies (for all students at varying levels of understanding) such as mnemonics, vocabulary practice, or guided modeling. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Strategies for Improving Math Instruction</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This article explains strategies for improving the teacher's instruction itself in order to improve student understanding.&nbsp; Some of the strategies included promoting more student engagement, implementing more progress monitoring, and providing environments that are more conducive for student learning. It also discusses models for intensive interventions and explains the benefits of providing sufficient resources to better support changes in teacher instruction.&nbsp; The article also gave great examples of how students can improve their math achievement through suggested teacher approaches such as being explicit with checking background knowledge whenever teaching new concepts or using questioning or feedback looping to monitor student learning.</div>]]></description>
