"The weasel lives in necessity and we live in choice, hating necessity and dying at the last ignobly in its talons. I would like to live as I should, as the weasel lives as he should"

This excerpt from the text describes how the weasel lives by instinct while us humans live by intuition. Dillard then talks about how she would like to live only by instinct just like the weasel because she wants to cast away all things like needs and responsibilities.

As far as I could tell at eleven or twelve years old, like, people with good jobs woke up very early in the morning, and the men who had good jobs, one of the first things they did was tie a strangulation item of clothing around their necks... they can't possibly be happy"

In Johns speech, he describes about how school tries to put you on a specific path and John says that he didn't want that life that society had tried to give him because he would be like all of the depressed workers. So John went on his own path which is why this idea represents individual over society.

The infographic by Jenny Mackness shows the difference between instinct and intuition and explains them. Instinct is the raw motive that drives someone. For example you will eat if your hungry and drink when your thirsty without putting too much thought behind it. Intuition is the process of where you think before you do something. For example thinking if something it right or wrong/ easy or hard/ and if you want to do it or not.
