My partner and I measured the temperature of the washers,74 degrees, and water, 104 degrees. Then we put the room temperature washers in the water. Then measured the temperature of the water, 96 degrees. Then we took out the washers and took their temperature, 96 degrees. The washers and water transferred heat making the washers hotter and the water cooler. Now we made the washers hot, 112 degrees, and the water room temperature, 70 degrees. We put the washers in the water and waited until the temperature didn't change. Then we measured both the metal washers, 84 degrees, and the water, 84 degrees. They transferred heat again making the water warmer and the washers cooler. This happened because when atoms are different temperatures they transfer heat. The hotter atoms transfer energy to the less active atoms. Then the slower atoms speed up and the faster atoms slow down. they keep doing this until they become the same temperature.
