Comparison matrices are similar to venn diagram but allow the teacher to create criteria to compare between multiple items. When students become more practiced at this, you could even ask them to create their own criteria for given items. This is a easily viewable way for students to identify and recognize the similarities and differences without necessarily having to write out a lot of information or details.

Creating sentence stem comparisons allows students to identify similarities and differences between people, places, ideas, and characteristics. Once students get the hang of making these comparisons, teachers can bridge their learning to more abstract ideas or connections that may not have been as visible on the surface level understanding.

Analogies can be particularly hard for students, so creating sentence stems can make it more manageable. Instead of having two missing elements, teachers can limit it to only one missing element until students become more confident in making analogies.

Visual analogies can be created using graphic organizers like the one above, or by having students find an image that represents a different item. For example, when comparing the layers of Earth, students can use a fruit such as a peach. For other concepts or ideas, students can create their own comic or match comics that best represent the idea.
