I relate to this song being Mexican-American. One of the lyrics that impacted me a lot was "Pa' que respeten los derechos de mi raza" (So that they respect the rights of my race), this shows that not only being in America, so many people try to discredit us and many other people of color. They as well try to Americanize us and look over our true roots. People tend to think we come to America to forget our native roots or "ruin America" but that is wrong. We come for a better life, better opportunites,etc. In the song it also says " No me llamen traiconero, Que a mis dos patrias las quiero" (Dont call me a traitor, that I love my two countries). We come to show our native side, show people what were capable of doing, we love both our sides. We get hate for it but we keep on going. Overall, this all relates to the unit because this song tells us that we need equity. We're all different but we all deserve fairness. Diversity is better than anything and treating each other with respect despite our differences or backgrounds. Not only do we need to change and become better in society just like the song says " The world is going to change". We have a long way to go, but we have hope that racism and discrimination amongst others is being talked about a lot more and many people calling each other out on that disrespectful behavior. In the song it says "Hated by alt-rights and racist police" This is still very big thing. This song was released in 2016 and its still relevant till this day. They're still so many people who discredit police brutality although its been happening for so many years. With the Black Lives Matter protest happening, telling people we need to get rid of it. They're always going to be ignorant people. This shows that in this unit we went over discrimination. Its always been around and we need to change. This song also goes over the harsh school system in South Korea, like in the song it says "Prayin for better days for you and I" Which this where Wale and RM come together and relate that everyone has issues. not only does America have issues, everywhere around the world does too. That is why its important to talk and bring to light the issues that separte us and instead come together.
