The United Nations is temporarily relocating its staff and urging the protection of civilian life and the resumption of aid. Despite Israel's claims, an attack on a UN compound in Deir Al Balah was linked to an Israeli tank. Attacks on hospitals and ambulances continue to make the humanitarian crisis worsen. The UN demands quick action, including a thorough investigation and the release of hostages.

The agency says that there is a 60% chance conditions will shift back to what scientists call an ENSO-neutral temperature range during March-May 2025, increasing to 70% for April-June 2025. According to WMO, January 2025 was the warmest January on record, despite the cooler La Niña conditions. La Niña can bring increased rainfall and flooding in some places, but in others drought. https://news.un.org/en/story/2025/03/1160836

Since early March there has been an aid Ban from the UN on Gaza. This decision was made after a ceasefire agreement was broken and a UN compound was hit with a strike that claimed the life of one UN ally and injured several others. With this war raging on UN officials have decided to pause aid currently and initiate some demands going forward. They look to investigate further into this matter and hopefully if demands are met they can resume aid before widespread famine and disease hits civilians.

The United Nations has made efforts to address climate change, notably the December 2024 ICJ hearings led by small island nations like Tuvalu and Vanuatu, which called on high emitting countries to take responsibility. In the past, the UN played a key role in the Paris Agreement of 2015, in which nations committed to reducing emissions. The United Nations created the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to promote global cooperation.

Through the main focus of Human Rights, the UN works to abolish the significant increase in Racism by raising awareness of art and culture and allowing for education. Sarah Lewis states that a lack of education can create ignorance, which leads to severe Racism and disputes that cause conflict. With the right teaching and work of education, we can come together to overcome false interpretations and achieve racial justice.

The International Criminal Court, or the ICC, is an independent judicial body that is tasked with handling the most severe crimes, including war crimes and crimes against humanity. Recently, ICC judges issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing alleged war crimes in connection with Israel’s military actions in Gaza. An aresst warrant was also issued for former Hamas commander, Mohammed Deif. However, neither the U.S. nor Israel recognize the ICC's jurisdiction and in response the U.S. issued an executive order imposing sanctions on ICC officials involved in these investigations, arguing that such actions set a dangerous precedent and threaten national security. This order allows for asset freezes and travel bans on ICC personnel and their families. A previous attempt by the U.S. Congress to sanction the ICC in January failed in the Senate. In response, the ICC strongly condemned the sanctions, reaffirming its commitment to judicial independence and calling on the international community to support its mission of delivering justice for victims of terrible crimes worldwide.
