2 it would change because withering means fading away and it would change because then it would mean that her feeling would be going away

3 it reveals her perspective about the land and home because she feels trapped and having a lot of pressure on her

4 Billie Jo is feeling smothered because her dad is not helping her and instead making her feel under pressure

Smothering means in the text like her suffering in the dust bowl.
It would of changed because it would of not been so dramatic and her just kind of fading away, but smothered is like instantly.

Smother means trapped or covered. Withered means wrinkled or dying. If BJ used the word "withered" it would have made it seem like she is dying or has given up all hope on getting out of the dust.

It shows how Billie Jo doesn't have hope for her dad's farm, her home, and does not have a positive state of mind.
BJ feels like she is "smothering" because she thinks that she is withering away with her Father, her farm, and her life will never be good again. It is having a bad toll on Billie.
