Anyways, helloo :) My name is Krista Gleason and I am a part of the ✨Class of 2023✨ as an incoming Senior. Ahhh It’s so crazy to me how time flies. Last school year I started a club to allow students to freely express themselves and that was Fashion Club and I still hold the position as President. I also currently hold the position of Vice President for Environmental Club. Some more facts about myself are that I enjoy listening to music and making jewelry. Within the next year I plan on starting my own small business to sell some of my creations. I am currently planning on majoring in biology to hopefully be on track to become a veterinarian in the future, but who knows where life will take me :)

I would just like to make it known that as you adjust to your lives at Soar your path may look different than others. Don’t compare yourself to your peers because everyone is going to be handling this experience differently. So just focus on bettering yourself and maintaining your goals or maybe even try and create some goals because it is perfectly fine if you don’t have a set plan. Throughout these four years you will be able to discover yourself and new passions. I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the time you have here by participating in events or clubs at Soar. Because before you know it’s going to come to an end and you’ll be applying to colleges and heading to the real world whether you have a set plan or not. 

There are going to be difficult moments during your time here so I highly suggest that you reach out for help and guidance even if you don’t think you need it. I noticed that as a Soar student we tend to think we always have to prove ourselves and that we can do it on our own but it is okay to reach out for help. That’s what we and our counselors are here for. If you do not find one that interests you out of SOAR's many clubs, feel free and start one. I am a member of NHS, CSF, and Earth Club. At the beginning of my sophomore year, I started Book Club with my freinds and became President. I will continue that position this year, as well as Yearbook Editor and Key Club Secretary. Outside of school, I am on the Key Club Division Leadership Team as News Editor. (I make a monthly newsletter about Key Club events that is sent out to many high schools in the AV) I love to read and take photos. This is my first year of being an ambassador so I am looking forward to helping you guys make the transition to a duo-enrollment school smoother, while also getting to know you guys.

Some of my random favorite things include red Powerade, lotus flowers, and sitting on my roof (safely ofc)   As some of you may know, many schools in California have put into effect a new start time for their schools. SOAR is included in that and will be undergoing many changes on campus, and amongst students and staff. It might be more difficult to adjust considering it will be a change for everyone but despite that, I'm sure all ambassadors will do their best to help guide you all. Just remember that we’re all transitioning and always have perseverance 💪 SOAR has a distinct dynamic from most high schools. Our school is highly competitive and can be very rigorous when it comes to workload. I will not lie, it can be a lot at times. It can be hard to manage but as SOAR students, you will all soon learn to find useful resources and learn to ask for help. When it comes to our dynamic, you might feel like you have to constantly prove yourself to your peers, but understand that as long as you try your hardest, that is all that matters. Coming from experience, asking for help was something that wasn’t easy but I learned that it’s okay. There will be hardships that you will have to overcome, and it won’t be easy but always try your best and remember that you have a support system within the ambassadors.  My name is Orisha, I am an incoming senior,
and this will be my third year as a SOAR ambassador! I am the Vice-President of SOAR’s GirlsBuild club (GSH), and a member of Inventeam, BSU, NHS, and CSF.
Alongside school I am a lead volunteer with a nonprofit organization based in the Antelope Valley. I want to further my studies in tackling medical disparities within our communities and how they connect with urban planning and resource accessibility. I also love learning about sustainable forms of design and public transportation equity!
Some of my interests include zoology and watching movies, my favorite animal right now is the shoebill and my favorite movies at the moment are Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Moonlight.
 I enjoy reading comics, manga, and listening to music, my favorite song right now is Appletree by Erykah Badu. 
From up until now my time at SOAR has been an experience that will definitely leave a lasting impression on me, I have matured and learned a lot and I hope that for our incoming class. Balancing high school and everything outside of it is going to be challenging but, there are students and resources here that provide a great amount of help. Ask questions even if you think they sound silly, be curious, and remember you have the ability to get through it! You got this!

This is my first time being an ambassador and I can't wait to meet you all! I am a part of the yearbook at SOAR and I am a part of the yearbook editing team. I joined the yearbook my first year at SOAR and I was so glad I did!! I got to meet a lot of great people and learned about SOAR through the juniors and seniors at the time. I am also a part of many clubs like NHS, CSF, and the Class of 2024 senate. I would love to meet all of you and even if I'm not your mentor. I definitely recommend getting involved in a lot of clubs so you can meet a lot of different interesting people. 

What I remember from my freshmen year will not completely compare to your experience. I was strictly online during the entirety of my freshmen year. I remember being extremely nervous and excited to start high school. I was nervous because I had to start college classes but I was excited to start a whole other level of academic challenges. SOAR provided a lot of resources for me when I was struggling with a subject. You also get to meet a lot of people during your time at SOAR and the mentor I had made me feel confident in my own abilities. 

SOAR can seem like a huge challenge but you will have a lot of support and people to always help. Some advice I can give you is to get to know as many people as you can and get involved in a lot of clubs. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help or tutoring if you are ever struggling. I can't wait to meet you all!! My name is Vanessa Ibarra and i’m and incoming junior (time flew by). A little bit about me is that I love being outdoors. I will walk anywhere (as long as it’s not hot). Some of my favorite things to do are listen to music, be outdoors, hangout with friends, and waste time. My most recent obsession with music has been Mac Miller, Deftones, and Tyler the Creator. I'm a soar prep alumnus. I'm an incoming junior. This is my second year as an ambassador (10/10 I recommend joining) and I'm looking forward to having an even better year as an ambassador next year! I'm a Sagittarius, I like listening to music, math (sometimes),  learning new things, video games, taking pictures, and meeting new people. 

Personally, I think starting school at soar was pretty hard with high school classes, avc classes, and extracurricular activities to deal with. But I know you will ease into it. You also have a nice community here at soar to have your back. When it came to starting my education path with avc, I looked to my mentor for help and she blessed up A LOT, so I recommend reaching out to your mentor or anyone you trust anytime you need help. Other than slaying your education, you should also start joining extracurriculars. These can be clubs in school (or starting your own) or volunteering and being a part of communities outside of school. You should also join electives, their super fun and can help you identify your interests and the things you would like to pursue in the future. I'm aware that we have (journalism, yearbook, stem research, and robotics). I can't wait to meet you guys and I hope you guys have a nice year :D

Just a little bit about me, I have been an Ambassador since Sophomore year and I am so excited to be a mentor again! I am currently Class of 2023 Secretary and have been involved in Leadership for the past year now. I am also super excited to be a part of Journalism's Editorial Team for the 2022-2023 school year. Furthermore, I am a member of CSF, NHS, and Fashion Club. 

I love to read, write, sing, act, and take piano lessons outside of school. I also have a passion for musical theater and anything Disney! In the future, I plan on majoring in Creative Writing, Performing Arts, or Education to hopefully become an Author and Teacher. 

My favorite pastimes, though, always include playing with my three dogs (Elsa, Penelope, and Lady) or hanging out with my sisters! This summer I am in Palmdale Repertory Theater's production of Legally Blonde the Musical the weekend of July 29-31 at the Eastside Performing Arts Center (sorry I just had to plug that in somewhere ;) the show's going to be amazing!!!)

Lastly, I just wanted to say that I am super proud of all of you for making it through these last couple of years and for making it into SOAR. It's probably super overwhelming right now and may seem scary, but all of these people on the Padlet and so many others on campus will be there for you. Don't be afraid to venture out, try new things, and explore your passions. I got so caught up in school and my own anxiety Freshman year that I never broke out of my shell. Thankfully, I was able to meet and get even closer to some amazing people this year who helped me love school again.

I avoided anything extra in my freshman year and sometimes I wish I had signed up for something rather than letting the time pass by. I really do recommend chasing your interests and joining a club! I know that at first, it can be quite confusing and stressful so don’t forget to prioritize yourself and your well-being. Take breaks when you feel overwhelmed and know your limits. Manage your time wisely and above all ask questions! it’s always okay to be curious and open-minded :D

 Although this is my first year in this program, I understand what the mentor/mentee program means and the effect it has on the incoming freshman. My mentor helped me in a massive way and I’m not sure I would be where I am in soar if it wasn’t for her, so I am so excited to be a mentor and have that opportunity to make sure that the incoming class is comfortable and prepared for the challenging four years ahead. It was so helpful for me to have someone who had already been through many of the challenges of SOAR and duel enrollment helping me navigate my first year here, and that is what I plan to do in this program for our new students. It will definitely be a new experience coming here to SOAR, but it will be well worth it overall. It will be much more challenging than a normal high school would be, but as long as you stay focused and remember to prioritize yourself and your well-being first you will do great!! The community here is much different from other schools which is something I really love, and if you ever need help or assistance I know that myself and any one of my fellow ambassadors would be happy to help in any way that we can. At the beginning of my sophomore year, I didn’t join any clubs which didn’t bother me at all until I decided that I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and do more with my life. However, towards the end of the school year, I managed to join CSF, Music Club and even got into Yearbook for my junior year. I am also really interested in the medical field, I would like to become a radiologist or anesthesiologist but I've got some time to choose. I am an incoming junior and am currently a part of CSF, Key Club, 2024 Senate, and Yearbook. 

Outside of school, I like getting to play different sports, especially soccer, volleyball, and dance. I also love listening to music, like I'm on Spotify all day, and won't leave the house without my AirPods. My favorite artists are Arctic Monkeys, Brent Faiyaz, Kendrick Lamar, Mac DeMarco, and Tyler, the Creator.

I know that coming to Soar can be intimidating and scary, but remember to take things one at a time and don’t forget to prioritize yourself and your mental health.

When I was a freshman, I remember being afraid for how the school year would go, and my mentor answered any questions I had and was really helpful in making me feel comfortable at soar. I hope to be able to do the same for you guys during my last year here. I highly recommend joining clubs that interest you because I wish I was more involved in clubs during my freshman year. It gives you a chance to meet people that are interested in the same things as you and you can make new friends. This year I plan on joining BSU, Dance Club, Key club and CSF, so if you plan on joining any of these clubs I hope to see you there!

The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to not be afraid to ask for help and don’t compare yourself to anyone. while you may have heard rumors of soar being stressful or difficult, do not think this way! soar is a very welcoming and helpful community, with amazing counselors and super kind students. dont ever be scared to ask questions or look for help when needed. as a freshman you may feel a bit nervous about having to do high school and college at the same time. remember, doing your work is important but pacing yourself and taking breaks is always necessary. 🫰

Now begins the fun part of managing your life with academics both college and high school, as well clubs, making friends, and overall maturing for the next four years here at Soar. But that's why we Ambassadors are here to help you get comfortable during your Freshman year. 

This is my third and last year being a Soar Ambassador and a Mentor to incoming freshman but I'm excited to work with you all. I am a Senior here at Soar! As of this next school year I will be a part of the STEM Research Program, Girls Build, and SWENext, all clubs and classes that are fairly new to me but definitely ready to join. I have been a part of Journalism (which I highly recommend joining) as well as Mock Trail which was a really fun experience during my freshman year. 

Some of my favorite things to do is listen to all sorts of music, play with my dog and cat, as well as play video games like Valorant and Minecraft (even though I'm not the best at it), and watch YouTube documentary series on anything and everything.

    Going into this next school year I am ASB Board Parliamentarian, Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Club (HLHC) President, Middle Eastern North African Club (MENA) Social Media Director, a Black Student Union (BSU) member, and a CSF member. There is an incredible amount of clubs at SOAR and highly recommend joining some of them (especially HLHC, MENA, & BSU :D). You never know who you might meet or what you find to enjoy! In case you don't know anything to look forward let me add that homecoming, pep rally, and carnival are a few of our biggest events during the year; all grades are welcome, and they provide spaces you can be yourself & have fun! 
     If you have any questions about your classes or anything, I'm always happy to lend an ear. I'd like to think I'm knowledgeable of SOAR and life outside of school :) Outside of school, I enjoy relaxing, spending time with my dogs, and hanging out with my friends. I will leave this with a piece of advice, I highly recommend getting into a routine during the first few weeks of school. My name is Alexander Zepeda and I am currently a rising senior here at SOAR. The only club that I am in is CSF (California Scholarship Federation) and use most of my spare time to explore my passions outside of school. I am extremely passionate about neuroscience and animal genetics and have done extensive research in each of these fields thus far. In fact, I will be expanding my knowledge of neuroscience this summer at Duke University. Following graduation, I plan to pursue a major in neuroscience and will use this degree to go to medical school and eventually become a neurosurgeon. 

If I could give you guys one piece of advice coming into SOAR, it would be to explore your passions and do things that you love outside of academics. School can be stressful at times, especially at SOAR, but there are plenty of things that you can do to make your time in high school an enjoyable one. SOAR has a variety of great clubs to join, which I highly recommend joining if they interest you. Some of the other things that I enjoy doing on my spare time include tennis, hiking, traveling, coaching youth soccer, playing the cello, and spending time with my animals.
