Whose voice/perspective is dominant?

This government website is predominantly produced and catered for parents and guardians of school-aged children. It is a guide to the process of education in Ontario, training, and the (online) graduation requirements for example. It expresses the rights and policies of our students and their learning environment.

Whose voice is missing?

Although this seems to be a very detailed and friendly site with links to support the reader with more information, it is missing the perspective of the ones who are in the school system. That is the administrative team (e.g. principals, VPs) and the teaching staff of a school.

Why do you need to be aware of "voice" as a leader of Catholic Schools?

As a leader of Catholic Schools, I need to be aware of "voice" as I need to foster a faith-based learning environment, to promote inclusivity and to ensure that everyone's well-being and success is experienced.

Whose voice/perspective is dominant?

In this educational website, it seems that the experiences and the stories of principals, specifically in the Secondary panel, are the dominant voices. It seems to be a website for professional development and growth within the profession.

Whose voice is missing?

The answer may seem obvious, but nonetheless, the voice that seems to be missing is the experiences and stories of principals in the Elementary panel as well as those just entering the profession (and not officially principals yet). The voice of the students is also missing in the articles and overall website.

Why do you need to be aware of "voice" as a leader of Catholic Schools?

As a leader of Catholic Schools, I need to be aware of "voice" as I need to foster a faith-based learning environment, to promote inclusivity and to ensure that everyone's well-being and success is experienced.

Why do you think "leaders as connected learners" is an important mindset for developing future foundational skills and leadership in Catholic schools?

In today's rapidly evolving world, adaptability and flexibility are critical skills for Catholic leaders. The ability to adjust strategies, respond to new circumstances, and approach change with optimism is important for navigating our dynamic environment.

Share one powerful example of how you use (or have used) social media or your board’s virtual learning environment to collaborate and support professional learning with other colleagues in Catholic schools.

I am currently my school's Twitter/X ambassador, as in the one- aside from the principal - who monitors as well as creates posts of our school's initiatives and events that happen throughout the school year. I also repost onto our school account anything that involves our school and community, when another teacher or board staff tags our school. This is an excellent way to not only network with other (Catholic) schools and to see what wonderful things they do in their schools, but it also allows us to support one another in a safe, inclusive and professional manner. I also have a couple of "teacher" accounts in two platforms- Twitter/X and Instagram -that I am able to collaborate with other teachers on and support them in their professional learning as they do the same for me.

What do you see as a next step for you in extending this leadership practice?

A next step for me in extending this leadership practice with respect to becoming a leader and as a connected learner, is to further develop my knowledge in digital literacy, to prioritize professional development on this matter, and being able to navigate through various resources and digital networking. This would benefit me as a school leader as this would empower me to relay the learning to my staff and school community in general, to better themselves as well.
