         <title>What is Attention Deficit Hyper Activity?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>        Attention Deficit Hyper Activity, or commonly abbreviated to ADHD, is a disorder that makes it difficult for a person to pay attention or control their impulsive behaviors (NIHM, 1). Common characteristics of ADHD include, fidgeting or squirming while seated, getting up or moving around frequently, running, dashing, or climbing, and interrupting or intruding on others. Other characteristics that are common can included disorganization, becoming easily distracted, and problems sustaining attention.  <br>     These characteristics fall into three categories inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Break up larger assignments into workable and more obtainable steps. Students who are diagnosed with ADHD may have difficulty focusing for extended periods of time. By breaking up large assignment into obtainable steps the student will be able focus long enough to complete them. It is also more rewarding to complete a list of steps, than to feel overwhelmed and frustrated while working one large assignment.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Establish set rules and routines. This strategy can not only help students with ADHD but is good practice for the class as whole. For students with ADHD it is very important that rule and routines are in place so that they know what to do and when to do it. This will help keep them on track. Common routines are also helpful for students who may need additional support, examples like always having the homework written on the same spot on board can hep direct a Childs focus and attention to what is important. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Allow students to fidget and move around. Simple activities like having the student wipe off the white board, allowing them to get up and get water or go to the bathroom, or even playing with small objects at their desk can help a student with ADHD quietly and productively get out their hyper activity without causing distractions to other students. </div>]]></description>
