I am taking this class to better understand a groups actions and thoughts behind the actions they make. I will be transferring to a medically related program and taking this course will help me long term when I encounter a situation with a patient and/or co-worker. It is also interesting to learn about the mind of others and the way we as people act in groups based on sex, age, ethnicity and etc. In my current job, I am around people all day and I am getting familiar with the way people influence each others behavior + predict how they will respond and act based on the group they walked in with.

The career I am aiming for is "Ultrasound Technician". When I graduated high school i wasn't too sure on my career path but I knew I wanted to study something related to the medical field. I ended up choosing ultrasounds because I like being in a more calm setting rather than in emergency mode 24/7 (like an urgent care nurse). Sociology can help me by informing me on the way people think and how they may act. I will be working with many different social groups in a clinic and it is ideal to have some type of mindset where I can be ready to do so. I also already work in customer service so I have a better idea of what its like to work with people. Sociology can help me by taking a different approach or point of view to the way that people are acting.

Tattoos are considered a sin in most religions but for samoans, hawaiians and etc., they are a sign of cultural pride. For Native Americans tattoo practice is used to show ancestral lineage. This type of art form can be used to express feelings, culture, beliefs, and history. Scientist discovered the remains of a body with tattoos from 3,300 years ago. Many rulers or public figures have tried to stop the influence of tattoos on others but have failed. For example when missionaries tried to eradicate the practice in order to promote Western European culture. Tattoos hold many different meanings and can be seen with different view from different perspectives. I believe people are still strong on the belief that tattoos are a sin and should not be placed on our bodies but times have changed a lot and people are becoming more open to different ways of showing culture and their own beliefs because of the meaning this strong way of art can show. It can even be a very simple meaning tattoo like your social security number, which people actually did to remember it.

It is Friday September 12th at 11:34 in the morning and I am sitting at a corner table by myself with my backpack and laptop, people watching at "The Well" coffee shop in Stockton. The moment I walked in I got a strong whiff of coffee and sugary sweets. I set a 30 minute timer on my phone as I walk up to the front counter and ask for a hot white mocha. The barista asks for my name and after I take out my phone to pay through apple pay. I step back and lean against a wall scrolling through my phone until my name is finally called. I grab my white mocha and look for a table. I chose to sit at the quickest available corner table to be able to watch all the activity happening in the restaurant. I noticed tables are a bit hard to claim when there are so many people with laptops taking up one whole table. Out of respect for others I sit alone in the corner and don't even think about sitting at an occupied table. I can tell everyone is here to get some work done. Next to me I see a man with a brief case, wearing and suit and glasses on his face. His outfit makes him look serious and ready to work. I can assume he is working on an assignment for his job but don't know for sure. On his table he has a coffee and white toast, very simple breakfast or brunch. He sips on his coffee ever so often barely reaching down for his bread. Next to him are two young ladies also entertained on their laptop. One wearing short bottoms and a short sleeve top with blonde hair. While the other girl wears black leggings and a t-shirt, as well with blonde hair. On their table sits 2 coffee's and a sandwich arrives right as I glare at them. I can assume they are going to share the sandwich since they asked for an extra plate. They seem like they are in their 20's, giggling with each other and writing down notes. One of the girls gets up to grab napkins and doesn't find any on the counter so she asks the barista. As she receives the napkins she quickly sits back down next to her friend. They both grab a napkin and place it under their coffee cup. The two friends grab their half of the sandwich and lean in for a bite. One of the girls removes the avocado claiming it is "too green". Her friend takes it and adds it to her half. They sit in silence for a while & then one of the girls walks up to the bathroom. While the other stays back and watches their valuables. When her friend returns, it is her turn to use the restroom. They work on their laptops while they exchange giggles when one catches her stare. I try not to make it obvious that I am watching them and make it seem like I am just thinking and browsing around me. I only have a coffee and my laptop in front of me as well as a thirty minute timer which currently holds 6 minutes and 26 seconds left. For the rest of the time I check my spelling for this assignment and pack up my stuff to start walking out. As i pack up I notice someone browsing for a table. With perfect timing i put my backpack on and start heading towards the door. My timer goes off and I am wished a great day on my way out.
