During the <strong>1920's</strong> it was considered a major crime, to be a <strong>prostitute</strong> and not follow the rules. ... <strong>Prostitutes</strong> often worked around night clubs, cabarets, and saloons.  <strong>Prohibition</strong> officially went into effect on January 16, 1920. ... As organized <strong>crime</strong> syndicates grew throughout the <strong>Prohibition</strong> era, territorial disputes often transformed America's cities into violent battlegrounds. Homicides, burglaries, and assaults consequently increased significantly between 1920 and 1933.</div>]]></description>
