Brandon is very happy that he has a dog now. He doesn't want to leave his room because he doesn't want to abandon the puppy. Brandon makes a fortress and he is the captain and the dog is the guard. Brandon's mom then calls him and Katie to eat. But Brandon doesn't want to leave the fortress or the dog.

Brandon goes to eat dinner with his family. The puppy keeps on barking and Brandon has to keep on barking along. His parents think that he has a very good imagination, but his sister is not happy. She thinks that Brandon has the imagination of a little baby and is annoyed at him. Brandon doesn't really eat anything and goes back to his room. He lets the puppy out of the closet and is very happy because he was able to get away with keeping the puppy a secret.

Katie wants to see her Dad, but Brandon does not because he doesn't want to leave his room and abandon his dog, Brandon instead wants to eat in his fort. When his dad gets home he doesn't want to eat with him because he wants to stay the captain of his fort. His mom makes him eat with his family but he doesn't want to abandon his dog. Even though he doesn't want to abandon his dog, he's forced to go downstairs and eat, and we meet his Dad for the first time. The dog makes a lot of noise before Brandon locks him in the closet and feels nervous and doesn't want to eat.

Brandon is hungry but he doesn't want to eat with his sister. Instead he wants to eat with his puppy in his fortress. He asked his mom if he was allowed to eat in his fortress and she agreed. Katie said she also wants to eat in the fortress but Brandon doesn't want to eat with her. So, he tells her mother he wants to eat by himself and she agrees. Katie eats with her mom while Brandon eats in the fortress with his puppy and they both ate a lot. Then, the puppy falls asleep and Brandon doesn't leave his fortress for the entire day. At 6:00, his father returns home and his mom wants them as a family to eat together.
