1789-The French Revolution and the Declaration of the Right of Man.

This was the starting Point for modern human rights in Europe. The French people demanded equality , liberty and justice, and created the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizens. It said that all men are born free and equal- a revolutionary idea at that time.

1848-The Revolution of Europe.

Across many European countries, people protested against kings and demanded freedom, democracy, and workers’ rights. Even though many revolutions failed, they showed that citizen wanted more political power and equal rights.

1919-The League of Nations is Founded.

After World War I , countries created the League of Nations to promote peace and prevent future wars. It was the first international attempt to protect human rights, but it was too weak to World War II.

1948-The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
