Thomas Hobbes was said to have sort of established the first principles in America. The Founding Fathers were influenced by Hobbes. While the Founding Fathers were very interested in what Hobbes was saying, the disagreed with how Thomas said that government authority has power over the citizens/subjects. Instead, they thought that the citizens and subjects should be able to speak freely with limited government authority. Thomas introduced the social contract theory which heavily influenced our government.

Thomas Hobbes is mostly known for his book 'Leviathan' published in 1651 which was mainly about 2 arguments in society, one saying that you should submit and obey government authority and the other stating social contract theory which means that when you feel that a ruler is unjust or unlawful you should take a stand and say something. With this book, Hobbes tried to marry the 2 ideas and find a balance between the two.

my opinion for his influence on U.S. government.

I think that Thomas Hobbes played a huge role in how our country is shaped today. In his book 'Leviathan' where he gives the 2 arguments of how you should always obey government authority and the other that says if you disagree with the government, change it and speak up, I think this is very important in the U.S. today. It gives people the idea that they have a choice if they want to speak up or not. Hobbes also tried to avoid violence at all times and I think that's why America is always so hesitant to declare war with other countries. All in all, I think that without Hobbes our country would be a totally different place.

My thinker was Thomas Paine. Thomas Paine wanted independence from Britain and he probably knew that this would come out in a war with violence. Thomas Hobbes was a nonviolent person so he probably would want to find a different way for independence. Hobbes might not want independence from Britain at all.
