I will bring some German Brezels for lunch to share. They are very famous in Germany and you can buy them always and everywhere you go. It's a really simple food, but you can vary it a lot: You can put butter on it, cheese, ham, ...
Traditionally, they are eaten with Weißwurst at the Oktoberfest. I think everybody knows this tradition.

They are prepared with simple ingredients: flour, salt, oil, white wine and various spices. They are eaten always during the year as a snack or as an appetizer with olive, cheese and cured meats. Tradinionally they are eaten with friends and drinking a typical apulian wine. I hope you really enjoyd this and you come to Italy to eat many more.

I live in the Palatinate.

In the region of the Palatinate, in the southwest of Germany - at the border to France, life often takes place outdoors and in nature. The climate is very mild, there grow figs and above all wine. The people use many possibilities to celebrate. A special cult is made around the typical food, plants and the wine of the region, for example asparagus festival, wine festival, almond blossom festival, chestnut festival, Bad Dürkheimer sausage market (the largest wine festival of the world) ... .

That's why I bring red wine jelly and homemade sausage, typical for the Palatinate region.

This tastes best with dark bread, baked according to old tradition. I hope it will fit into my suitcase.

Ogórki kiszone
This is a type of cucumbers that are preserved with lactic acid formed as a result of a natural process - lactic fermentation. The English translation “pickled cucumbers” is not correct because pickled cucumbers are a completely different foodstuff, which are preserved with added acetic acid (vinegar).

Recipe for pickled cucumbers:

1 liter of water, 2 tablespoons of salt, 1 tablespoon of sugar; ground cucumbers, garlic, dill, horseradish (root and leaves).
Put the cucumbers tightly in the jar, add the garlic cloves, dill, horseradish root, cover with horseradish leaves and pour hot water with salt and sugar, close the jar and wait 2 days until the cucumbers change color and white lactic acid appears. Cucumbers prepared in this way can be stored for two years. :)

Our city is known from gingerbread.
Toruń’s gingerbread (Thorner Lebkuchen, Thorner Honigkuchen) is a traditional pastry, made by bakers for about 700 years. The legend tells of Katarzyna, the daughter of a miller from Toruń, who was to prepare delicious delicacies for the king's arrival to Toruń. Bees told her to add honey to bread and cakes. The baked goods went great, and the king began to praise Toruń’s gingerbread throughout Europe.

Easter in Italy is a veritable awakening of colours and flavours. The "Colomba" is the most famous dessert, a dove-shaped bread made with almonds, sugar and egg whites (symbol of rebirth). Sometimes it can have the shape of a lamb. The story tells of the Lombard king Alboin during the siege of the city of Pavia (750 AD), and a pastry chef who presented him with a cake in the shape of a dove as a symbol of peace at Easter. The king liked the cake and he lifted the siege.

Wibele are very small, sweet biscuits originating from the Franconian city of Langenburg in Germany, though nowadays they are considered a Swabian speciality. The dough is made from egg white, icing sugar, flour and vanilla sugar. They are similar to "Russisch Brot" ("Russian bread"), another form of German biscuit, but instead are only baked until they are slightly brown. They were invented by the court cook of the prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Jakob Christian Carl Wibel. Café Bauer in Langenburg is the only company allowed to produce "Original Wibele", as the owner secured the rights in 1911. However, Wibele biscuits are also produced by other companies.
