They have many of the same essential questions. They are told from different perspectives throughout the book. The plot and time frame are different. Uprising details three female characters' journeys in the early twentieth century. They live in NYC and experience the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fires; whereas, in Escape from East Berlin, two characters of the opposite sex live in East Berlin, and they escape to West Berlin. Taylor expresses her love for her mother and the struggle with the feeling that she could lose the person you love at any moment. At the beginning of the song she says, ¨Desperate people find faith, so now I pray to Jesus too¨ This is one example of her perspective changing because she said she was not religious before but when she was put in this situation with her mother she found praying as a way of making her feel better and more hopeful of the situation. These lyrics show how much she really cares about her childhood, "Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home Remember the footsteps, remember the words said and all your little brother's favorite songs I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone."
