As an ELA-S Math teacher, I have the privilege of teaching immigrant students who are not only learning math but also mastering a new language. My goal is to empower them to see math as a universal language while building their confidence in English.

Teaching Math is more than just teaching numbers; it’s about helping students bridge gaps, both academically and linguistically. I love seeing how math opens doors for my students to dream big and achieve their goals.

Thank to this poster and a finger that me or my students would move to sign where we were at, they became more aware of 1- their use of their own voice, 2- of how noisy it was when people started finding it disturbing and 3- how pleasant and peaceful was working in silence.

While engineers and mathematicians focus on the solution. when we design, we focus on the problem itself and try to define it. Design problems are often ill-defined, which means they are abstract and not full, so to train designers, we should focus on identifying these problems effectively.

Here is a diagram I did many years ago to turn into a design at the very end.

Technology allows students to learn at their own pace. Platforms like adaptive learning software help tailor lessons to each student’s strengths and weaknesses, making learning more effective.

2. Increased Engagement

• What it is: Saying "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."

• Why it’s important: This is the most basic belief in Islam. By saying this, you accept Allah as the only God and Muhammad as His final prophet.

2. Salat (Prayer)

• What it is: Praying five times a day.

• Why it’s important: Prayer helps you stay connected to Allah throughout the day. It’s a way of showing respect, asking for help, and giving thanks.

3. Zakat (Charity)

• What it is: Giving a portion of your money to those in need.

• Why it’s important: It’s a way of helping people who are less fortunate and sharing your wealth to reduce poverty and inequality.

4. Sawm (Fasting during Ramadan)

• What it is: Fasting from dawn until sunset during the month of Ramadan (no eating or drinking).

• Why it’s important: Fasting teaches self-control, empathy for the poor, and helps Muslims feel closer to Allah.

5. Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca)

• What it is: A trip to Mecca that every Muslim should make at least once in their life if they can afford it.

• Why it’s important: Hajj is a powerful spiritual journey that unites Muslims from around the world and symbolizes equality and humility before Allah.

In Short:

These five practices are the foundation of Islam, helping Muslims stay connected to their faith, care for others, and live a good life in the eyes of Allah.

The six pillars of faith are:

1. Faith in Allah SWT

2. Faith in angels

3. Faith in the holy book

4. Faith in prophets and messengers

5. Faith in the last day

6. Faith in destiny

The first characteristic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is shiddiq, which means "truthful" or "honest." This means that every word and action of the Prophet was protected by Allah SWT, ensuring that everything he said and did was truthful, sincere, and without any deceit.

Everything the Prophet said and did was always in accordance with the Qur'an and not based on his personal desires. This is confirmed in Surah An-Najm verses 3–5:

“Nor does he speak from [his own] desire. It is not but a revelation revealed, taught to him by one intense in strength (Gabriel).” (An-Najm: 3–5)

This honesty and truthfulness were evident even before he became a prophet. He was known as al-Amin, which means "the trustworthy," by the Quraysh people because he never lied and could always be trusted.

2. Tabligh – Delivering the Message

The second characteristic of Prophet Muhammad SAW is tabligh, which means conveying or delivering everything revealed to him by Allah SWT.

As a messenger, the Prophet’s duty was to give warnings, guide people, reform their lives, and prepare them for happiness in both this world and the Hereafter.

The tabligh quality was essential, as a messenger of Allah could not hide any part of His revelations. Allah commanded the Prophet to deliver His message in Surah Al-Ma’idah verse 67:

“O Messenger, convey whatever has been revealed to you from your Lord. If you do not, then you have not delivered His message. Allah will protect you from the people. Verily, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.”(Al-Ma’idah: 67)

3. Amanah – Trustworthy

The third characteristic is amanah, which means trustworthy or reliable. This relates to the Prophet's responsibility of guiding his people according to the trust given to him by Allah SWT.

Prophet Muhammad SAW upheld this trust with great integrity. Everything he did was solely for the sake of Allah SWT, and he never used his authority for personal gain.

This trait is mentioned in Surah Al-A’raf verse 68:

“I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am a trustworthy advisor to you.” (Al-A’raf: 68)

4. Fathanah – Intelligent

The fourth characteristic is fathanah, meaning intelligent or wise. Intelligence is generally understood as the ability to comprehend, think rationally, and use resources effectively when facing challenges.

In general, intelligence is categorized into three types: IQ (Intelligence Quotient), EQ (Emotional Quotient), and SQ (Spiritual Quotient). Prophet Muhammad SAW possessed all of these.

This is proven by his strong memory in retaining the revelations from Allah SWT, his wisdom and patience in solving problems faced by his community, and his deep devotion to worshipping Allah alone.

Obviously literacy is an important factor for our daily lives and it should be taught from a very early stage. Play is also a powerful tool for the advancement of literacy. It helps with communication skills, learning vocabulary and developing imagination. If technology and play is incorporated in a structural way in the learning environment the results will be successful.

Key Concepts:

• Root: The topmost node (starting point).

• Parent and Child: Each node (except the root) has a parent, and may have one or more children.

• Leaf Node: A node with no children.

• Edge: A link between two nodes.

• Path: A sequence of nodes connected by edges.

• Height: The longest path from the root to a leaf.

• Depth: Distance of a node from the root.

Types of Trees:

1. General Tree – Each node can have any number of children.

2. Binary Tree – Each node has at most 2 children (left and right).

3. Binary Search Tree (BST) – A binary tree with ordering: left child < parent < right child.
