The profile communicates a comprehensive picture of a learner! I would consider adding cultural awareness in addition to cultural responsiveness. The awareness indicates the learner has the ABILITY to recognize the different beliefs, values and customs that someone has based on that person's origins, and it allows a person to build more successful personal and professional relationships in a diverse environment, meaning we would need to incorporate these skills into the educational instruction of the learner

I wonder if our students will understand some of these terms. A few of them (like "failing forward" and "cultural responsiveness") may not be fully understood by students or even their parents. Although there is a glossary, that seems to take away from the purpose of the document. Perhaps simplified language would make this more accessible for all students.

The bottom left picture is really cute, I am just not sure the connection to the learner attributes that are described. Might want to consider another 'cute' yet impactful picture that ties it all together (pictures are worth a thousand words, right?).

I like how "simple" and direct the profile is, especially the clarity in categories and descriptors for the Profile of a Learner. I like that this fits for all of us, from those entering as first time students, to those exiting, to those of us who work here. I reviewed this with some 8th grade and high school students, and one of the high school students asked, "Shouldn't this say 'Successful Learner" - which led to some great discussion. My 8th grade students said they weren't sure what "zest" and "grit" meant - saying that those are "adult" words, "not what we would say." One phrase confused all the students I asked. While I appreciate the phrase "failing forward" - the students seemed confused about that, wondering if that is when a teacher says, "I know some of you didn't get it, but we have to move on." Needless to say, we discussed what failing forward really means. My favorite phrase of all though is "Insatiably desires to improve and grow..."

This is a great document. I love how each section in this profile has the "And exhibiting..." portion with traits/values/qualities. I know that some people have expressed concerns about whether young elementary age children would know words such as zest, grit, perseverance, and resilience, but I've worked with 6-8 year old children in the First Tee program and they can tell you all about integrity, perseverance, confidence and the other core values.

I especially appreciate the format of this document: the four sections and that each section includes "And exhibiting..." I see in the feedback that the concept of "failing forward" has received mixed feedback. I think this is more a sign that we need to have conversations about what this means and not that we need to change it. It is important that we work to transform the idea of failure, and "failing forward" needs to be a part of our shared vocabulary in Klein ISD. I am somewhat bothered by the notation "financially literate," not that I think it isn't necessary as it is absolutely necessary. I would like to see "financially literate in parentheses or behind a colon after a larger idea. Perhaps, "College and Career Ready: Academically and socially well-rounded" and "Life Ready: Financially and culturally literate citizen" would work. I think recognizing and highlighting that we are developing citizens in a democratic society is important

I love the whole child/whole citizen goals in the Profile of a Learner. I believe initial challenges will be articulating different age-appropriate steps in helping students achieve each identified descriptors (Pathway Explorer, Equipped Scholar, Values-Driven Leader, and Forever Learner). However, I believe that we will identify great ways to address each of these areas across all grade levels and spotlight successes when we see them in our schools. Those spotlights will add tangible action options for educators who may need this assistance.

Great document as well. I think we'll need to be cognizant that some of the indicators under "Values-driven leader" like kindness, joy, etc., may manifest differently among different learners. It won't look the same across the board. Overall, I like the document.
