sense1. Atticus isn't old as in a senior, but he is "old". Atticus always says he can't play football/or other games with ahem because he is too old. He has two kids who are getting older so he must be in his mid to late 40's.

2./3. Yes I do think that Atticus is a good father. He plays with his children and he is very kind and understanding. His lessons he teaches his kids are very valuable. He teaches Jen and Scout values and he teaches them good lessons, which will help them become better people in life. If I had Atticus as a dad in this time frame I think I would have a great childhood and learn many lessons that are thought today by parents. This is proven here in this line "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view— until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." This is a lesson we all still learn today, and a great lesson fir him to teach Scout at such a young age. I feel that it did help her in this bike and she did use his advice. Also if she learned it young then she will understand people better and developed a better sense of who she knows.

1. Atticus says that he is old himself, as it's seen when Jem requests him to play tackle football and declines, saying, "I'm to old for that, son." Miss. Maudie also says, "I don't call fifty old." So, in my opinion he is still 'young'.

2/3. I think Atticus is a good father, based on how Scout talks about him. Often when somebody says something that could be negative towards Atticus, she defends him. He also teaches them many good life lessons, such as how he believes in equality for blacks and whites.

Minds On Activity

I think that if I were to wake up and Atticus was my father, I'd think he'd be a good parent. I think this because of the constant references in the text, and how he acts. He stands up for what he believes in, and an example is when he defends a black man. He always sees both sides of an argument too, and we can see this when Scout says, “When Jem an’ I fuss Atticus doesn't ever just listen to Jem’s side of it, he hears mine too.” Finally, he does his best so his children can stay as safe as possible, such as when the ‘Mad dog’ attacks and he steps forward to shoot and eliminate it

1. If Atticus was my father I would picture him being in his forties because he is too old to play football/play with Jem, but he isn’t too old to work. 2/3. I think Atticus would be a great parent because he is a nice parent and let’s the kids play outside of the house, but he also has boundaries. He is strict but flexible if the kids ask him if they can go somewhere. Also he would be a great role model because he is against racism and he is respectful to everyone and knows everyone is equal. “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” (said by Atticus, Page 33)

I believe this because Atticus says "I’m too old for that, son" to Jem when Jem would ask to play tackle football with Atticus.
2. I believe that Atticus is a good parent because he always tells his children the truth and he never wants them to get into fights. To support that Atticus tells the truth he says "When a child asks you something, answer him, for goodness’ sake " to his brother Jack when he lies to Scout. He also says "This time we aren’t fighting the Yankees, we’re fighting our friends. But remember this, no matter how bitter things get, they’re still our friends and this is still our home" to Scout when his was talking about Scout fighting.

Atticus is a good father by always giving advice to Scout and Jem. Atticus is definitely not old yet but he is getting there by saying that he can't play football and can get up to the tree house. He is doing very well for being on his own but has lots of help buy calpurnia and all of the neighbors. To scout, Atticus could probably be 70 but he really isn't. This line in the book shows how Atticus doesn't want to tackle. Jem was football crazy. Atticus was never too tired to play keep-away, but when Jem wanted to tackle him Atticus would say, “I’m too old for that, son.”

Our father didn’t do anything.

1. Atticus is going into his later years of life but he is not necessarily old yet. Why I think this is because he's still a younger father with two younger children but he constantly says he's told old for things like football. It is throughout chapter ten that Scout complains about him being old and feeble but he's the one the takes down the mad dog showing he's still young and courages enough. In the text it says "Atticus was never to tired to play keep away but when jem wanted to tackle him he would say "I'm to old for that son".
2. I think Atticus is a good father
3. He is constantly working hard to keep his family healthy and in good shape. He is a very polite, understanding, and honest man and he likes to take time to take care and play or read with his children. Why I think this is in the text it says "you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."

If Atticus was my father I think he would make a good parent. This is because he is very a calm and understands children very well. He likes to listen to them and take thier thoughts and opinions into consideration. I also do not think Atticus is old, this is because he can still do many things such as make the right decisions. It is better to have a father who is wise and strong than a parent who can 'play football'. We know this because he is constantly giving advice to Jem and Scout, for example, "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it, (pg.33)." Atticus tells this to Scout when she doesn't want to go to school anymore and she is mean to Walter Cunningham. This shows us that Atticus is wise and gives good advice to his children. Also Atticus is not racist to African Americans and he is trying to show Jem and Scout that coloured people are not any lower than them, they are still people.
