So I guess my strength is relationship building. People often tell me that I am kind and quirky. I think my students like my class because I use an integrated constructivism approach to teaching. When we are learning Newton’s laws we are building and launching rockets, when we are learning about optics we dissect cow eyes, when we are learning about transversals we build city blocks. I want to make learning fun and meaningful. I want my students to remember what they learned in the 8th grade. I want them to love coming to class.

I feel my strengths are in classroom management and parent rapport. Being that I teach kindergarten and many of my students have never been in a classroom setting before, I am sure to establish clear, consistent classroom rules, and procedures from day one. My students know what I expect from them and we build a classroom environment where all students feel safe to learn and have fun. PSE is a STEAM school so we make sure our students have choice in learning while building upon social skills through different STEAM team challenges and group activities.
I also begin to build rapport with my parents by calling each of them before the school year begins to let them know I will be teaching their child and what special thing they want me to know about their child before I meet them. I record weekly videos to my parents on Seesaw and invite families in throughout the year for class celebrations. I believe once my students feel safe and happy, learning can begin to take place. I also believe that once you gain the support of your families, they will back you to the fullest.

I feel as though creating a positive classroom environment is the key to success as a teacher. For me, it is extremely important to lay the foundation of a strong relationship on the first day of class. It is so true that students are willing to learn and achieve if you believe in them and take time to really get to know them. What kind of activities to they like to take part in? What is their home life like? How many siblings do they have? When students see you taking time out of your day to understand their differences, abilities, and likes/dislikes, they are more willing to be respectful, kind, and hard working. Although this may take time out of instruction, it is extremely crucial to do at the beginning of the year.

First grade requires a lot of hands-on learning, and getting students interested and passionate is something I strive for in our lessons. Connecting our learning to students' local surroundings and/or interests are key, which opens the door to "problems" that may need to be solved and the possibility to turn our learning into various games. It makes learning fun, and the best part is that 9 times out of 10, they don't even realize that they are learning! It's also an amazing way to integrate all or most subject areas in a meaningful way.

My greatest strength as a classroom teacher is the relationships I build with my students. I'm not only interested in what they are capable of accomplishing inside the classroom, but I truly like to know their goals outside of the classroom as well. This strength also helps guide my instruction as I really get to know each of my students and what drives them. I try to incorporate as many opportunities for choice as a I possibly can, and by the end of the year, students are actively suggesting ideas for activities/assessments they can use to show mastery. They become the leaders in their own learning and they take great ownership in how hard they have worked to be successful.

I communicate clear expectations for my kids from the first day of school so that our classroom can be an effective and safe place to learn and interact with each other. As a school counselor I believe that building a trusting relationship is the most important key to student success. It is crucial that all students come to school knowing that they are loved and have someone available to help them strengthen their social skills/coping skills, problem solve with them, and most importantly, act as their cheerleader!

My greatest strength as an educator is my ability to foster a positive rapport with my students. I firmly believe that the key to student achievement is found in building relationships. Students know when a teacher has a vested interest in their success and generally respond by performing well in class. To strengthen this rapport, I learn about students' interests and do my best to attend sporting events and performances and to engage in conversations related to my student' interests. I enlist and exhaust all resources available - parents, fellow teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, mentors, pastors - to build a support system for struggling students. I am relentless in my pursuit of helping students reach their potential in my class and beyond. Students know I genuinely care for them.

My strength as an educator is building a sense of community within my classroom. In a community people work together and have a sense of purpose. I try to make my classroom a place where students have respect for each other and know that they are valued. I want them to feel comfortable and secure while also growing in independence and being stretched to do new things. I encourage them to take responsibility for their learning and see the value in learning. For my students specifically I teach them to connect their learning to the real world outside of school so they are better prepared to transition out of high school. My students learn that they have something to contribute to our classroom community and are better prepared to contribute to their communities outside of school such as family and work.

My strength as an educator is organization, community building (among students and parents) and classroom management. In my class, I not only make sure my students are organized but I keep myself organized as well. I organize student data, lesson plans and materials so that they are easily accessible when needed. My students know where materials belong and they know my expectations to keep our classroom and school community nice and neat! I love building community in my classroom through morning meeting, songs and ongoing communication with parents! Since I teach kindergarten, for most of them it is their first real school experience. I want that to be positive and I like to keep parents informed with academics, behavior and events so they stay involved. If we start them now, hopefully they will continue to be a part of their child's success. I also want each and every child to know they are truly loved when they enter my classroom and once they are my student, they will always have a piece of my heart!
