Being that I teach kindergarten and many of my students have never been in a classroom setting before, I am sure to establish clear, consistent classroom rules, and procedures from day one. My students know what I expect from them and we build a classroom environment where all students feel safe to learn and have fun. PSE is a STEAM school so we make sure our students have choice in learning while building upon social skills through different STEAM team challenges and group activities. 
I also begin to build rapport with my parents by calling each of them before the school year begins to let them know I will be teaching their child and what special thing they want me to know about their child before I meet them. I record weekly videos to my parents on Seesaw and invite families in throughout the year for class celebrations. I believe once my students feel safe and happy, learning can begin to take place.
