Either money, pleasure, political, or contemplative lives lead to happiness

1. Money:
- money is useful for another end; therefore, it is not an end and a life of money is not a happy life.
2. Pleasure:
- because of their pleasures, men prefer a life suitable to beasts. The life of a beast is not a happy one. No objective flourishing :).
3. Political:
- the end of political life is honor. Honor is based on the recognition from others, which is too reliant on others and not enough on oneself. Also people who seek honor, claim they should be honored because of their virtues showing that a virtuous life is better than a honorable life. It is, however, possible for one to possess virtue but not ever do anything in his/her life. Therefore, not doing anything in ones life cannot be a happy life, even if the person possesses virtue.
4. Contemplative:
- Because the above three are not true, the contemplative life must be the happy life.

The purpose of humans is found in using the rational part of the soul; therefore "good" is doing that purpose well (excellent action)
