Addiction starts when you take more of a substance regularly. Substance can be addicting and will force you to take more. This is called tolerance. Tolerance occurs when someone gets addicted to a substance. There are 2 main types of tolerance:

Acute- Acute tolerance is when someone is exposed to a drug over a small period of time. Cocaine often results in an acute tolerance. Cocaine gives a faster heart rate and increased blood pressure. When that runs out and Cocaine is used again, it won’t give the same rate of “high” with the same amount. You will need to take more of this to match the “high”

Chronic- Chronic tolerance is long term causing the user to take this substance for weeks or months. The user will have to take more of the substance to give the body what it needs. This will cause the user to take a higher dosage and a more intense way to consume the substance.
