My interest in this field started from my real life. My cousin has cerebral palsy, and I grew up seeing his daily life. I saw how hard things can be for him, but also how happy he feels when he achieves something, even small things. That taught me something very important: support is not doing everything for someone, it is helping them try, learn, and feel proud.

I also did volunteering at a Center for Children with Disabilities in my home country. At first, I thought I am going there to help them, but honestly, they helped me more. I saw how strong and positive they are. Even with challenges, they still smile, learn, and grow. That experience changed my thinking. I understood that people don’t need pity, they need support, respect, and opportunity.

My approach as a Developmental Services Worker is simple. I treat people with respect, kindness, and patience. I believe every person is different, and I should support them based on their needs, not in one same way for everyone. I focus on their strengths, not only their difficulties.

Two important principles guide my work. First is respect for dignity. This means I listen to people, respect their choices, and treat them as equal. Second is promoting independence. I don’t want to do everything for them. I want to help them do things by themselves, even if it takes more time. Because when they do things on their own, they feel confident and proud.

I also believe in dignity of risk. In my own life, when I moved to Canada, everything was new and scary. But those risks helped me grow. So I believe people I support should also get chance to try new things, even if there is risk. That is how learning happens.

I also believe in inclusion. People with disabilities are not just “clients”, they are friends, students, workers, family members. They should be part of society like everyone else. I want to help them feel they belong.

My values are honesty, empathy, respect, and being real with people. I see myself as a helper and also a learner. I am always learning new things to improve myself. I am patient, adaptable, and I try my best in my work.

I have some important core competencies like building relationships, resilience, and facilitating growth and development. I am good at building relationships because I listen, I care, and I try to understand people. This helps them trust me and feel safe. I also have resilience. Life was not easy when I moved to Canada, but I learned to stay strong and keep going. I also support growth and development by helping people learn new skills, become more independent, and reach their goals step by step.

My goal is to make small positive difference in people’s lives. I want people I support to feel confident, respected, and proud of who they are.
