It was a study of twins were separated at birth and developed differently to see how each person would differ.

3. Genetic factors influence personality because things like r our height or our athleticism can effect what we choose to do in life., I used to be tall so I played basketball in middle school for a bit

5. I possess athleticism and love to pay sports and this has shaped my genetics because it has . kept me out and active and helped keep me healthy like my parents were when they were kids

Adele and Molly:

1- The article gives the definiton for Nature as mostly genetics. While Nurture is widely enviromental factors. Both are alinged and what make us who we are. (Molly)

2- Francis Galton believed that people with high intelligence is a result of genetics, he said that less intelligent people shouldn’t have children. Johm B Watson believed that people could train themselves to do anything no matter their genetics. I think now both of these perspectives have been disregarded. (Adele)

3- Our enviroment and the interactions with people around us affects our personalities and there is a large amount of genetics were inherit that also impact personalities. I have a lot of genetics from my parents like bad eye sight and back/neck problems but I grew up in a nurturig home that helps. (Adele)

5- My example would be our anger issues. In Nature, both our parents have suffered with anger issues, becoming a generational problem. In nurture, we reflect how our families acted to give us a higher chance of inheriting anger issues. (Adele + Molly)

1- the way that nature is defined is mainly by genetics and biological factors passed down through genetics. But nurture is how someone was raised in order for them to act that way, or environmental factors rather then internal ones. Together they both create our personality and who we are

2- Descartes and Plato believed that their are factors of who we are and what we do that cannot be influenced or changed by outside factors or environmental factors but sold rely on genetics

3- both are necessary to produce a personality by influencing it in different ways. Our environment is the people and things around us and as humans we adapt to those circumstances we get put in. Like despite being a naturally clumsy and unbalanced person learning hockey from a young age made me capable of ice skating and keeping my balance which otherwise i would have horrible balance.

5- a good example for me would be anger issues. As both my parents have problems with anger it has passed down to me. Which now means I could potentially pass it down to my future children if I ever have kids. Because my parents where able to pass it down to me there’s a good chance my sisters also have it

By Morgan Younan & Emma Skelton

1) Nature refers to our genetics, which includes the genes we are born into that impacts our personality. For example, you might be very smart because one of your parents is also very smart. Nurture refers to the environmental factors that impact us, which includes the way we are raised, relationships, and the culture that surrounds us. For example, you grew up around very polite people, so you always say please and thank you.

2) It is believed by philosophers (Plato and Descartes) that certain factors occur naturally regardless of environmental influences. Advocates of this believe that all of our characteristics/behaviors are the result of evolution. On the other hand when it comes to nurture, it is believed by John Locke and John B. Watson that everything we are is determined by our experiences. They also believe that people can be trained to do/become anything no matter their genetic background. These perspectives evolved overtime when people realized that both nature and nurture play a role in shaping our lives.

3) Although it depends on the theory you look at, our personality is a result of the interactions we have with our environment but it can also be inherited by your parents. For example, I am a really social person which was because of the environment and people that I was raised around. If it weren’t for that, I could’ve been shy. On the other hand, my parents also are social people so they could’ve passed that on to me creating my personality.

5) My parents were both varsity athletes in high school, which is the ‘nature’ aspect of why I am so athletic and good at running. I work hard and train six days a week, which is the ‘nurture’ aspect of why I am such a talented athlete.

1.

NATURE: genes we are born with and other hereditary factors that can impact how our personality is formed and influence the way that we develop from childhood through adulthood.

NURTURE: encompasses the environmental factors that impact who we are. This includes our early childhood experiences, the way we were raised, our social relationships, and the surrounding culture.

2.

Historically, the nature vs. nurture debate has seen shifting perspectives. Early philosophers like Plato and Descartes argued that traits such as intelligence and personality were innate, emphasizing nature. In contrast, John Locke’s concept of the "tabula rasa" (blank slate) suggested that individuals are shaped entirely by their environment.

3.

The article explains that personality traits are shaped by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Genetics provide a foundation, influencing traits like temperament, extraversion, or neuroticism, while environmental factors such as upbringing, culture, and life experiences shape how these traits develop and are expressed.

4.

The article describes current scientific perspectives on the nature vs. nurture debate as recognizing that both genetic and environmental factors interact to shape human traits. It is important to consider both factors because focusing solely on genetics can lead to deterministic thinking, assuming people’s traits and behaviors are fixed, while ignoring nature in favor of environment overlooks biological predispositions.

1) The article explains nature as traits we inherit, like eye color or intelligence, while nurture is shaped by what we are surrounded by, like how we are raised or the skills we learn.

2) Francis Galton believed genetics determined everything, while John B Watson thought environment shaped us completely. I think scientists realized that they both play a huge role in who we become.

3) Personality comes from both genetics and experiences. For example, identical twins often have similar traits even if raised apart, but their environment still influences how they develop. Me and my sister look almost identical but she grew up with both parents and I only grew up with one which changed our personalities which makes us really unalike.

4) Scientists now see nature and nurture as connected. Genes might make something more likely, but our experiences shape how those traits develop. Its important to consider both as if you had an underlying genetic disease it could become more dangerous based on your environment.

5) I think my patience comes from both nature and nurture. I might have a naturally calm personality, but life experiences and the way I was raised have helped me become more patient over time.

Izabella C

Hailey

The article defines that nature comes from our genetics. Our personality is based on genetic factors. We are born with the genes that give us our personality. Ex: If you have a very aggressive personality, it may be because your mom gets very angry easily. The article defines that our nurture comes from how we were raised and the people we were raised around. Ex: You have a very outgoing personality because your family has pushed you to get out of your comfort zone.

Philosophers like Plato and Descartes think that certain factors occur naturally regardless of environmental factors.

Madison and Lily-

Nature is the influence of genetics on personality. We are born with it and it develops with us as we develop. For example, being good at a sport because their parents played it. Also physical traits. On the other hand, nurture is the influence of environmental factors that impact our personality. It can include things like our childhood and what we are surrounded by. For example, a person being good at a sport because they constantly are practicing. Nurture is affected by family dynamics and parenting styles.

Albert Bandaranaike tests these theories and perspectives by creating a “social learning theory” where children interact with a Bobo doll and then observe how adults act around it either aggressively or with care. This strengthened the theory by emphasizing that “people learn by observing the behavior of others”, contributing to nurture rather than nature as personality and behavior develops. Others have said some things that relate to a harmful idea of nature versus nurture, like Francis Galton, who developed a scientifically racism based theory that “intelligent individuals should be encouraged to marry and have many children, while less intelligent individuals should be discouraged from reproducing.”

Genetic and environmental factors influence personality traits in many ways. For example, genetics can make someone more or less confident in their abilities and features. Environmental factors can influence personality by seeing how other people reacted to situations they were in. For example, if one saw others say please and thank you, they would learn through observation and say it too. A personal experience for this is that when I see my sister being talkative and extroverted, it makes be too

Modern day scientists have come to terms that nature v. nurture is not entirely separate from each other, but people are dependent on both in different amounts and a multitude of ways. They take into account genetic factors and environmental factors when determining the behavior of another because it is all so versatile and complex to each individual that it is hard to discern something solely of said genetic nature or environmental nature.

I believe my artistic abilities come from being surrounded by my dad’s side of the family, they are all interested in something artistic or have a job around that field. It shaped my environmental behaviors because I was constantly exposed to it and had time to develop the skill with the help and support of my family.

Grace and Addisen

1. Nature concerns genetics. This means genes and other hereditary factors that influence our personality and development from childhood to adulthood. An example of nature is maybe you are kind because your parents are kind. While Nurture talks about how our environmental factors affect us. For example you may communicate through yelling rather than talking because you grew up with parents that argued often.

3. Some state that our behavior and characteristics are the result of evolution. That our parents pass down the traits that make up our personality. However, some believe that we form our personality from our experiences. An example of nurture is when my aunt would help my grandma take care of my grandpa . I saw this and thought about how helping others is important. For Nature, I believe that because my mom is sensitive, I am to. I get upset a lot at small things.

1. Nature refers to the genetic inheritance and biological factors that shape our physical and behavioral traits. For instance, genetic predispositions can influence personality characteristics such as extraversion or introversion. 'Nurture' pertains to the environmental variables, including upbringing, culture, and personal experiences, that impact our development. An example is how exposure to diverse cultures can enhance openness to experience. 2. Historically, the debate oscillated between those emphasizing genetic determinism and others advocating for environmental influences as primary in shaping behavior. Over time, the perspective has evolved to acknowledge that both genetic and environmental factors interact in complex ways to influence human development. 3. Research indicates that personality traits result from the interplay between genetic predispositions and environmental influences. For example, while genetic factors may set a baseline for traits like extraversion, environmental factors such as social interactions can modify these traits. 4. Contemporary science views human development as a result of both genetic and environmental factors. Recognizing the role of both nature and nurture is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of behavior and for developing effective interventions in areas like education and mental health.

They can come from different life experiences. Examples of this can be your ability to serve and lead others.

Some people state that our development has come from evolution and our ancestors are the ones who pass down traits that make up our personality, while others believe we form our personality from our experiences throughout life. For example, nature is what traits you might get from your parents, and nurture could be who your friends were growing up and how they shaped your personality.

Historically, many people thought that only nature or nurture was what decided who you would be. This means people thought your entire personality was based on how you were raised, or based on genetics. Now people believe more in a mix of the two, with both having important factors that define who you will become.

The article says genetics define your personality by making your brain thin k certain ways and believe certain ways, and environmental factors make it so your past experiences make you change over time. An example for nature is certain disabilities that you can inherit from genetics. An example for nurture is your parent’s influence on you since you were a baby and how you were raised in the household. If your parents are sweet people then you develop to also be a sweet person based on your parents influence.

Philosophers like Plato and Descartes suggested that certain factors are inborn or occur naturally regardless of environmental influences. While other well-known thinkers like John Locke believed that tabula rasa suggests that the mind begins as a blank slate. According to this, everything that we are is determined by our experiences throughout our life. Over time there were other beliefs from theorists like John B. Watson that believed that people could be trained to do and become anything, regardless of their genetic background.

The answer to personality development theory varies based on nature vs. nurture. According to some behavioral theories, peoples personality is a result of the interactions we have within our environment meaning nurture, while biological theories suggest that personality is largely inherited which is the nature factor.

Daria

Nature: This refers to the genetic makeup and inherited traits that shape our personality and influence our overall development as we grow from childhood to adulthood.

Nurture: This involves the various environmental factors that shape who we are. It includes our upbringings, early experiences, the way we interact with others, and the culture we live in.

Albert Bandura tested these concepts with his "social learning theory." In his experiment, children interacted with a Bobo doll and watched how adults treated it—either with aggression or gentleness. His research supported the idea that "people learn by observing the behavior of others," which suggests that behavior is more influenced by the environment (nurture) rather than innate qualities (nature). However, some figures like Francis Galton pushed problematic ideas regarding nature vs. nurture. Galton, for example, promoted the idea that "intelligent people should be encouraged to marry and have many children, while those perceived as less intelligent should avoid having children," which is a harmful and scientifically unsupported theory.

Some argue that our behaviors and traits come from evolution, and that we inherit personality traits from our parents. Others believe our personality is shaped by our life experiences. For example, a nurture-based experience for me was when I participated in a group project in school. I learned how working in a team helped me develop better communication and social skills, which contrasts with my natural introvertness. On the nature side, I believe my intellect is influenced by my father, as he has always been very analytical and sharp, and I find that I share the same ability to solve problems and think critically.

Today’s researchers acknowledge that nature and nurture aren't entirely separate influences. Instead, both factors play a role in varying degrees, and they interact in complex ways. Scientists now recognize that genetic and environmental influences are both crucial in shaping behavior, making it difficult to say that something is purely the result of genetics or environment alone.

Aleks and Ryan
1.Nature is different from Nurture in the way that nature is determined when you are born, it is your genetics and is influenced by genes from your parents, that can impact our personality and how it is formed. But on the contrary nurture describes peoples environment which is things like the actual setting you are in, the people we hangout with, and relationships you are in.
2.
3. The article explains that genetic factors influence peoples behavior by making them less tempted to do things, and genetics dont play a large role in personality besides that, environmental factors play a bigger role in shaping peoples personality, some examples i can think of are factors like friends, family, news, and tv.
Sent from my iPad

4)The article describes the two by saying how the both of them aren’t completely separate . Even though some things can show up in your genetics, there are other traits can show up from any experiences you go through in any environment. It’s important to consider both factors, because just having yourself focused on the genetics factor can lead people to have deterministic thinking. People shouldn’t ignore that environments we’re around, because there is a difference between the nature and nurture we face.

5)A trait that I possess is being responsible. Although I sometimes procrastinate some things in life, I always am responsible and complete the tasks I promised to finish.I think I lean more toward the nature side of things, because my family is always responsible for the decisions they make, and are always taking account for what they say they are doing.

Scientists have recognized that nature and nurture are not separate influences but actually interact in different ways for each individual. When testing behavior, they consider genetic factors because the genetics and environment work together so much that it’s hard to attribute a trait only to genetics or environmental factors.

3. Our behavior and personality are shaped by genetic factors, and being in a negative environment can sometimes bring out undesirable traits. Initially, we inherit a combination of our parents' personalities, but as we grow, external influences gradually blend with those traits, helping us develop our unique personality.

5- my ability to feel sympathy for others was formed from my genetics as my mother is very apologetic as well is my grandma . so naturally I was born to be forgiving and apologetic to others and often give second or third chances.

I think it’s important to concider these things because if there is a negative trait that someone is showing and that could potentially cause issue for them in the future, its important to know who or what is making them feel influences to act that way. For example if its their environment, then things can be changed in their environment to help reduce those bad behaviors.

A trait I posses is the extreme need for everything to be organized and I cant sleep, or do anything productive in my room until it’s completely tidy. I think this is definetly a trait from my mom because she is the same way. I didnt start off this way, but halfway through middle school is when I started to feel the need to always have everything organized

Nadia + Silvana

1)The article describes nature as our genetics. It says our genetics influence our personalities. Nurture is how our environment impacts our development. For example if your parents are very athletic, you will share that gene and most likely be athletic yourself that would be an example of nature. An example of nurture would be if you are around people who are often mean and have a negative attitude it will rub off on you and you will begin acting like those around you.

2)In the article they discuss that Plato and descartes believed that our traits and certain factor are inborn or occur naturally regardless of environmental influence while John Locke believes in something called tabula rasa which means that the mind begins as a blank states and that everything that we are is determined by our experiences. These perspectives have changed and many now think that both genes and experience work together to shape who we are.

3) Both genetics and our experiences/environment play a big role in our personality. For example, nature influences characteristics such as humor and the way of being due to a family member and nurture is the way your see certain things like culture and education and how that might eventually influence you and cause you to have a different perspective in the future

5)Both my parents are very impatient which resulted in me being very impatient. Spending time around my friends has made me less impatient because they are not impatient and often take their time with everything so I tend to rush things a lot less. My impatience changing has a lot to do with the environment around me and the people I am around.
