This paper captured current discourse theories of ‘subordinate masculinity’ and
‘oppositional masculinity’. It delivers theoretical arguments in reasoning to understand intimate same sex partner violence in prisoners such as gay rapes. ‘Hegemonic masculinity’
as a theory can be applied in understanding male offending of questioning the idea: Are all
social conditions suitable to achieve masculinity for all men. How gender is performed in prisons reveals quite graphically the disparities in same sex relationships and how they relate to the Masculine-Feminine Dominant Figure.
