The story explains Pi, a human, being stuck at see with multiple animals. In this story, Pi is terrified of not being able to survive, and the vicious and hungry animals on the boat. The hyena quickly shows the orangutan and the zebra that he is boss while Richard Parker, the tiger, hides away until he quickly shows Pi that he is the most powerful, and that if Pi comes in his space, he will attack and kill, like he did to the hyena. This story with Pi aboard a lifeboat with four animals is the better story because in the end, when Richard Parker leaves Pi without saying goodbye, it shows that although they could not communicate verbally, they did have a connection, and Pi was going to miss Richard Parker. This is the better story because it protects the dignity of a human being because animals are meant to kill other animals, and story two shows how vicious people can actually be when they are under these circumstances. With the story being about animals, there is no shock when the hyena kills and eats the zebra and the orangutan or when the tiger kills the hyena. But there is a shock and an unbelievable concept: a starving tiger and a human were on a boat together for a very long time, and both came out alive. In reality, if there was a tiger and a human stuck on a boat together, the tiger would eat the human in an instant. While he is on the ship, he wakes up in the middle of the night and the ship begins to sink. He goes out on the deck in the pouring rain when men suddenly throw him onto a rescue boat. Pi ends up on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker, a hungry hyena, and an injured zebra, floating away from the Tsimtsum, where his family is. The next morning, Pi sees Orange Juice, an orangutan, float up to the boat on bunches of bananas. Once the orangutan comes aboard the lifeboat,  Pi witnesses the hyena attack the zebra with a broken leg, and then the hyena moves onto attacking the orangutan. Because the hyena kills the zebra and the orangutan, Pi screams, and the tiger comes out and attacks the hyena, killing it. Pi and the adult Bengal tiger, Richard Parker are now alone on the boat. Weeks and weeks pass, and Pi has been living on a raft attached to the boat with a rope that he made with life jackets, oars, and a life preserver. He feeds Richard Parker fish everyday, while he eats the canned food he pulled off of the boat and brought onto the homemade raft. A storm comes and wipes away the raft and all of Pi's food, forcing him to live on the lifeboat with Richard Parker and eat raw fish (he is a vegetarian). Pi learned from his father, who owned a zoo, that a tiger's instinct is to attack and protect their own territory. Pi attempts to tame Richard Parker and show him Pi is not dangerous to Richard Parker, which eventually allows them to be able to co-exist on the lifeboat. One morning, Pi and Richard Parker run into an algae island, where there is thousands of meerkats (Richard Parker's dinner, yum!), fish bones, and a lot of edible seaweed (Pi's dinner). This island turns out to be carnivorous, meaning it kills everything  because the algae turns acidic, so Richard Parker and Pi stock up on food and leave the island to continue their journey in the ocean. Days go by, and the lifeboat hits Mexican land, where Pi is too weak to even walk on the beach to find anyone. Richard Parker, climbs out of the boat, stares at the jungle, does not growl or make a sound, and leaves Pi forever, devastating Pi. Pi's mother and Pi himself were on the ship together in hopes to move to Canada from India. There was also a Taiwanese sailor and a French cook all aboard the ship. Pi, his mother, the cook, and the sailor all ended up on the same lifeboat after the ship began to sink. On the life boat, in the middle of the ocean, the cook was very greedy and began with cutting off the sailor's leg because he said that the only way the sailor could get better was to amputate it. This was an act of greed because he began to use the sailor's leg as bait to catch fish, and when that failed, he ate the leg of the sailor, and when that did not suffice his hunger, the cook killed the sailor and ate pieces of his body. When Pi's mother finds out what the cook did to the sailor, she slaps the cook across the face with great force. Pi was then standing, not able to do anything while his mother is killed by the cook. Pi then, with much anger of just watching his mother die, kills the cook in an act of rage.
