This quote shows that the heather birds, who symbolize what Millicent wants to be, are absolutely different from sparrow birds. In this scenario, the heather birds would make their own decision, are independent, and have freedom. The sparrows, which symbolizes the sorority group, are all the same and follow each other. Millicent does not want to be like the sparrows birds since she does not want to be told what to do and be like everyone else in the group. Millicent wants to be like the heather birds since they symbolize that they are different and make their own decisions.
