The Warsaw Pact was a response to the NATO. It was an alliance between the communist countries aligned with the USSR: Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), Hungary, Poland, and Romania. Just like NATO the Warsaw Pact was a defensive measure in case of an attack. The USSR would use this Pact as a way to gain tighter control and influence over other communist countries.
