Europeans did this to make a better and stronger nation, so they could be the most superior out of all and they did not really think about the people that they were conquering, but instead changed them, so they could fit in with the rest of the Europeans. The goals of Imperialism was not physically harmless, but it played a role in leaving Imperialism with a bad rap. Conquering and controlling land, gets defined as a bad thing, so this was also one of their goals in order to be successful in becoming a stronger nation. Social Darwinism was also a belief for a bad reputation. Because of the strongest could control the weakest, than the weakest would have no right, and soon the strongest nation can fully control the weakest and change the lifestyle of the weakest into converting them or civilizing them. Mostly, this was targeted badly at the weakest, but beneficial to the strongest. Nationalism comes along the way and cities are outdoing one another for being the most superior and believing that they are the most superior, so tension and wars increase between nations. These was a tough time for Africa, Asia, and China as the Europeans and slowly many other countries controlled parts of these countries and stole things for their own benefit, so basically exploiting them for their own advantage. They did not care and showed no respect. They also knew that they were all weak, so nothing could stop them, so they took it like an enjoyment. Stealing resources, trades, markets, wealth. trading ports, etc., which made these countries mad. Their own homeland resources were being taken away. Slowly Europeans took over and restricted many things. The people in China were agitated by these and could not stand it anymore and took their own action of making a group called the Boxers made from Chinese nationalists. They went from city to city finding Europeans and killing them for revenge, but at the end the Europeans defeated the Boxers.
