So once we know a little bit about the origins of the Canadian Stock market, we will dive straight into the point and see the crash of October 29, 1929. This website will tell us about one of the worst crashes in the history of stock markets and how it affected TSX during this time. The crash of 1929 is called the "BLACK TUESDAY" and was a four day collapse which led to the The Great Depression. This was the time when people saw their investments evaporate in front of their eyes. Not only did the companies lose their money, but also the consumers lost their money because the banks had invested their money without their knowledge or permission. People lost their confidence as they saw their life saving evaporate. This led to The Great Depression. Read in detail about this in Website 2. The reason for this website was its figures, once can clearly see the numbers and figure it out how bad it was.

This particular website will tell you on how the crash of 1929, affected Canadians. This website will give you some insight on how TSX and Montreal Stock Exchange were shaken and how the investors reacted during this time. This was actually the first time when billions of dollars were lost on Canadian Stock Exchange that too in such a brief time. In Montreal 500,000 shares were sold 5 times the usual amount and in Toronto 330,000 shares were sold 13 times the usual price. 50 most active Canadian stocks diminished to half their market value. This was horrific and the panic and the broken confidence of the people made it worse. This was something that I found very close to what I was looking for and how it affected the bigger companies, made me choose this website.

This video is something that will tell you how Canada was during this time (1930s) during the Great Depression. A lot of factories can into existence in Canada during World War 1, Canada was allowed to overproduce goods, knowing this factory owners stared slowing down the production and stated laying off workers, which caused unemployment and poverty. Canadian economy depended on exports and 40% of which depended on America. So if anything has to happen to America economically, Canada would feel the aftereffects of that. I selected this video because a lot of questions would come up, how and why american economy so important for Canada..

The reason I chose this video was because in four and half minutes, it tells us on the daily life of Canadians in 1930s, how people did not have money to drive vehicles and horses pulling the vehicles became a regular sight in 1930s, how soup kitchens opened and gave out free or inexpensive food to the unemployed. Government also gave relief payments but it was not easy to get relief payments, people who wanted it had to go through a lot before getting their hands on the money. This also change the roles of men and women in the day, it was the first time when women made 25% of the work force. It also tells us about places that were open for women during that time. The Great Depression forced women to make changes on the way their houses operate. This was a bad scenario in which, something good happened, which was women becoming more independent.

The collapse of the stock markets was a part of great depression, there were other factors like crises in farming, inequality , overproduction, etc. This video tells us about how loans were easy to get without credit checks, and how people rushed in stock markets to make what they thought was easy money. With a lot of investors as loans 100% loans were approved during that time, a disaster was bound to happen. The stock prices went beyond their real value and the crash happened, markets collapsed, businesses closed, people got unemployed, got homeless. This became worse when the Prairies were hit by a massive drought. People starved and lived on streets. Government set up relief camps.

Finally I would like to talk about what stock market is and how it works for a common person who would like to invest and make this their profession or a part time investment thing. This video would tell you a lot on how and what stock markets is and how it functions. This business is unpredictable and one needs to know the right time to enter and exit a particular stock. One must know how much investment to begin which and keep some money save for you to average a stock if it falls from the price you have bought. This is a business I would love to do it, but one needs funds to make this a full time thing. Things like fundamentals and charting are something that would support you during this process of buying and selling. One must be attentive, not greedy when it comes to stock markets. It is difficult to maintain profits and very easy to lose everything in this field. Invest with your mind not with your heart.
