At this point, I think Heather considers Melinda a friend because she asks her to help, invites her over, and hangs out with her at school. She also said "She's a friend" when The Marthas asked who she was.

I wonder why Melinda helps Heather decorate the faculty lounge. Does she do it out of curiosity to find out what the faculty lounge is like, or does she do it as she feels inclined to do so, as she is Heather's "friend"?

The way the author writes the dialogue reminds me of scripts for theater plays. This further makes me think that theater or acting could be a motif in the story.

I can infer that Melinda saying that she will "try to pay attention to biology" during the chapter "Blue Roses" has been effective in improving her grade, as her biology grade is a B, which is higher than most of her other grades.

I think Melinda is the type of person that doesn't try in any of her school subjects unless it's one that she's really interested in since she has an A in art but seems to be kind of slacking on her other subjects.

I find it interesting that she is grading the social aspects like clothes and lunch as grades. Lunch is her worst grade so was it from that one incident or has more things happen at lunch?

I can infer that Melinda's nightmare or whatever problem she has, has something to do with a person. In the chapter, Nightmare she calls her nightmare it, and describes it as some person. It could possibly be another old friend from middle school, or maybe an old bully.

Melinda seems to be aware of how she acts, presents herself, and dresses when listing those as extra categories along with her grades. Will that eventually change? I wonder if her social situation will change anytime soon, and how. The only area she's doing well in is playing nice (putting on a fake face maybe) and art.

i wonder why young girls find it very important to be popular ,making risk and bulling just to fit in. where do they think this will take them? when heather wants to fit in she ends up being fake to satisfy the people she looks up to as "popularity"

I can infer that the students have a big influence on the choices of the school regarding their mascot. A mascot for a school shouldn't be that sensitive but it seems a protest was able to easily change what their mascot is.

It seems like Melinda doesn't want to participate in her school very much. She doesn't seem interested in voting for a mascot, joining clubs, and making friends. I wonder how she will feel when she finds that living this way will be very lonely.

Trees and actors are mentioned in the same sentence during the, "GO____," section. I wonder what the choosing of the school mascot has to do with the story. The author does seem to be mentioning these three mitifs quite a lot. As for the tree motif, I thik it might have something to do with the fact that there are so many clans within the school. I think the tree trunk may represent the school itself, the branches may represent the different clans, and I think the leaves would represent the students. Or this may connect back to the idea of a community, a clique, and then friend groups.

Is Melinda warming up to Heather more? She mentions feeling more comfortable only around Heather, even if it sometimes. She may still dislike heather, but I think Melinda is starting to trust her more.

when I started noticing how melinda was hating on everyone, it made me realize that maybe her judgement could've been caused by something that happened at the party, since her friends seemed to have no problem with her otherwise.
