- Eurystheus commanded Hercules to bring him golden apples which belonged to Zeus. They were a wedding gift from Hera.
- The apples were kept in a garden at the Northern Edge. They were guarded by Ladon (hundreds headed dragon) and the Hesperides.
- Hercules did not know where the garden was so he traveled through Libya, Egypt, Arabia, and Asia.
- Hercules was stopped by Kyknos son of Ares. They had a fight which was broken up by a thunder bolt.
- On his way to Illyria, Hercules seized the God Nereus who knew the gardens location. Nereus finally told him the information.
- Hercules got in a fight with Anateus and won.
- Hercules killed the eagle that tormented Prometheus. Prometheus told Hercules the secret to getting the golden apples. Hercules would have to send Atlas to get the apples for him.
- Atlas retrieved the apples. He told Hercules he would take them to Eurystheus. Hercules agreed but tricked Atlas and ran off with the apples himself to give to Eurystheus.
- There was a problem, the apples belonged to the gods so Eurystheus could not keep the apples. Hercules had to return the apples to Athena who took them back to the garden.

-Cited as the most dangerous labor
-Cerberus is a 3-headed beast (w/ serpent tail and snake heads on his back) born from Echinda & Typhon that guards the underworld to keep the living out.
Myth:
Before going to the underworld to face Cerberus, Hercules familiarizes himself with the Eleusinian mysteries (which were believed to grant happiness in the underworld to those who knew the mysteries). He then found his way into the underworld through a place called Taenarum in Laconia through a deep, rocky cave. He battled his way through many monsters and ghosts before finding one of the five rivers named Acheron. There he found Cerberus and did not hesitate to place cerberus into submission by grabbing hold of all 3 heads at once. He then throws cerberus over his shoulders Hercules promised Hades that he would not kill cerberus so cerberus could continue being the guardian of the underworld. He brought cerberus up through the underworld back to the surface with the help of Athena and drops cerberus in front of King Eurystheus. The king was so afraid he promised to release Hercules of his labors. Cerberus is then returned to his post.
