She unexpectedly passed on the 22nd of August in 1904, due to cerebral hemorrhage. Though she attended an all girl's Catholic school, Academy of the Sacred Heart, her doctor, Fredrick Kolbenheyer inspired her to begin writing. Thus, she began with fictional pieces, publishing At Fault in 1890. Unfortunately Chopin was not alive when her work became appreciated. In addition, she published two major works in which contained a collection of stories she wrote. Bayou Folk (1894) focused on the people of Louisiana (the Creoles and Acadians). Her second collection, A Night in Acadie (1897), revolved on the way which women were treated in the South. Another one of her important works is called The Awakening (1899), where she focusses on the major lack of freedom given to women.
