I would say it'd change her whole character in the book and she wouldn't be an outsider and the plot would be different as well. Viewing the story through her eyes helps us understand more of her as a character and what she is going through. High school is portrayed in different ways in movies, books..etc. For example, the movie High School Musical portrays high school as fun and well musical lol.
