Meeting my students

When starting my first lesson, I greeted the group with a video song to sing the "Hello song". They loved the idea of the video and they enjoyed that part. Then, they met "Moky", the puppet that will be with us during this period of "Practica docente". They showed enthusiastic and they loved kissing the monkey.
That strategy helped me to create a motivating atmosphere and catch students´attention.
The way there were sitting (in circle) was good. In the production stage, they were in a round on the floor and I was in the middle to monitor their work. That was effective. When we played a game they was in a row and that moment was a bit confused at the beginning but immediately I could sort that. I started to count and guide them to the row. They orderly participated and I was really happy to see them enjoying each moment.

I think they could follow me all the time. My worst fear was that they couldn´t understand me because their teacher speaks in Spanish in his lessons. I had to use my body language and gestures all the time giving very simple tasks. That was great!

Some of the students didn´t know the colors as I thought so they had some problems to resolve an activity that required to identify numbers and paint. After analyzing it, I would change into a simpler one. For example, I could paint a circle next to the number and then say the color aloud. Probably, they can identify and relate the number and the color easier.

It is incredible to see myself as a kindergarten teacher!

Today is Saturday and I have been preparing some material for my last class.
As you can see, I have a box to play a game with colors and it is useful to revise numbers since children practiced from 1 to 10 last class. It is played with balls and each hole will have a painted color in order to listen to a command and put it into the correct hole.
Moreover, I will work with worksheets. I had to make some changes and adapt the printed material for my students.

One of the strategies I found useful was to use a puppet. Moky helped me to guide my students. When it shouted (it has sound when you press its leg) the group knew that there was a change in the activity they were developing. Immediately, they were prepared to receive an invitation to do something new.
I consider this moment an important one since they were happy and exciting to play, sing, dance or color.

As I said before, this was the first time of my life facing little kids so I was nervous. Anyway, each class was better than the other. It is important to pay attention to our students context and interests, it helped me a lot. One of the moment I consider relevant is when I returned to the resources I used the last class as the boxes and the balls and they were familiarized with them. It was easier to teach them the new one and show them how to do it.
The most lovely moment was the last class when I gave them the "mini Moky" as a present. Some days before the last lesson I prepared 20 presents for each student and for my observer I prepared a book with a cd full of activities for the kids. They really appreciated the details and they hugged me a lot. Of course I cried when each member of the institution said words of love and invited me to come back as many times as I want. They invited me to celebrate the children´s day with them too!
