  • She is a pretty, smart and brave girl, who is running for the next student council election and is dreaming to become the first ever female President of the Student Representative Council in the history of her school.

It was when she wanted to join the debate club. She knows she's good, having been a debater since 11, and going on competitions, she thought she'd made the cut, only to realize she lost the spot to a senior one-year older. Apparently the teacher thought he'd be better just because he's a guy, so his opinions are more 'matured'.

    Then it was when she wanted to become class president in her 2nd year of high school. The teacher was one of her favorites. He's funny, and always kind to his students. So it was a shocker when he told the class that he does not want any girls in any of the class positions.

    Ariena realized it has always been like that and she hated it. Nobody fought against the obvious unequal treatment, maybe too scared or maybe they're just too used to it. That's not right. When she turned 15, she wanted to change all of this. It was already 2014, the world was different, and Ariena is adamant on bringing that change to her school.
     
    Every year, on the month of July, the student councils and organizations will go through the rearrangement of power, and have an election to elect new council members and replace those that are going to graduate. At 16, in her 4th year, Ariena decided to run for President of the Student Council.
    The President is a typically male dominated position, and in all the history of her school, there were never any female presidents. So that's why seeing her reveal her target position in the manifesto left people stupefied. Ariena aims to become President. 
    But things were not easy. Another candidate wants the position too, and it was none other than the popular straight As student and ace of the school's basketball team, Daniel. 
    Ariena hates Daniel ever since they met in PE during their first year. He may be all smiles and sweet words, but she knows that those were all fake. This cocky guy is nowhere near sweet. He may got the looks, but has a penchant on looking down on others. But she has to admit, he does know how to climb the ladder, and she knows going against him is going to be hell for her.
    Not to mention that Daniel comes with a posse of crazy fan girls. The craziest one being their leader Farina. And indeed, during the election campaign, Farina did a lot of things just to antagonize Ariena. Daniel's friends weren't of help either. They keep on being mean just to spite her. 
    There was a lot on her plate, she tries not to let the haters get to her but it was clearly not a walk in the park. There was also Teacher Chua, the SRC supervisor, who is infamous for his sexists opinion and jokes. Ariena knows, her running for President must have had him burst a blood vessel. 
    Fortunately, Ariena was blessed with people like Debbie, Sarah and Teacher Atikah who ardently supported her through everything. Or so she though.
    What she did not know was that Debbie, her best friend, the one she trusts the most, had become chummy with Daniel. Debbie has always had a crush on him ever since their first year. She kept it a secret, knowing how Ariena utterly hates the mention of this guy. But in the midst of the election, Daniel approached her in the pretense of asking for help regarding the campaign. From then on, they started to always talk to each other, when passing by in the hallways, in gym class, during lunch. Ariena did not notice because she was just so busy with her errands during those times. Debbie was always alone. And Debbie being too gullible works best in Daniel's favor. Daniel was not being sincere, he approached her to find a weakness. Once found, he'll use that against Ariena in the election for sure. Then, he'd make Ariena break and think was this even worth losing a friend.
    All the things that happened to Ariena then were just obstacles she had to break through. The pain, the exhaustion, the fear, and the tears was what made her stronger. What happened with Debbie was unfortunate, and it stings in her chest every time she thought of it, but she has to pull through.
    Ariena was devastated when she found out, but there were her supporters who helped pick her back up.
    And now she is more than ready to fight this heads on.
